DRS Technologies Canada Ltd. (DRS Canada), is a leading mid-tier Canadian defence electronics company specializing in military voice and data communications systems; electro-optics (EO) and infrared search and tracking systems (IRST); command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I) systems integration; deployable flight data recorders; and defence/space electronics manufacturing.

Purpose:

Quality inspection during the manufacturing process, in accordance with customer quality standards

Major Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Conducts physical inspections at prescribed manufacturing stages to ensure hardware is meeting customer quality standards

  • Provides feedback and guidance to assembly operators regarding defects and non-conformances and how to prevent recurrence

  • Responds to queries on the quality of parts

  • Re-routes hardware for re-work with appropriate paperwork, records accurate defect codes on the shop traveler, and ensures rework operations are re-inspected.

  • Generates Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for defective parts and assemblies as required

  • Makes decisions based on accept/reject criteria following inspection of hardware

  • Prepares data packages at final assembly stage (consolidates paper/documentation, ensures sign-off, identifies as ready to ship). Works with CADM and QA to clarify any discrepancies following review of data packages

  • Supports Quality Assurance or Customer Inspectors during Source and FAI Inspections

  • Reviews test data sheets for compliance to the test requirements, and ensure all signoffs are complete and legible

  • Completes Inspection Checklist when required, requests and signs off Release Notes, and routes product to shipping

  • Performs assembly and other manufacturing functions as required when time allows

  • This profile reflects the major normal duties of the position. Other duties and projects may be assigned.

Technical Competencies:


  • Certification in Industry Standards WHMA-A-620, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, MPI, MPS and NASA must be achieved and maintained, and applied consistently on-the-job

  • Fluent with quality standards, internal documentation and product lines

  • Ability to interpret contractual requirements and to execute them independently

  • Intermediate PC skills

  • Knowledge to implement effective ESD practices at all times

  • Knowledge of SPC is an asset

  • Initiate from schedule which tasks need to be done first (plan work schedule to meet deadlines)

  • Ability to read drawings, recognize components, translate measurement guides

  • Good numeracy skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)

  • Familiarity with common measuring instruments such as a ruler, vernier calipers, and micrometers

  • Understands the link between assembly, inspection and Quality Assurance in customer satisfaction

  • Maintain any certifications needed to comply with government regulations and customer requirements
