Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Sheetmetal Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and fabricating aircraft structural components. This role requires a keen eye for detail and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Examine aircraft structures, including the fuselage, wings, and empennages, for damage such as cracks, corrosion, and dents.
  • Remove damaged sections and perform complex structural repairs, modifications, and installations using techniques like riveting, patching, welding, and bonding.
  • Plan, lay out, cut, bend, and shape metal sheets (aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, etc.) to fabricate new or replacement parts according to engineering drawings or original parts.
  • Assemble and install structural components and sub-assemblies, ensuring precise alignment and securing them with appropriate fasteners like rivets, screws, and bolts.
  • Accurately complete all maintenance records and forms, ensuring all work adheres to manufacturers specifications, company policies, and regulatory standards (e.g., FAA regulations, ADs, Service Bulletins).
  • Proficiently use a variety of hand and power tools, precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers), and machinery such as shears, brakes, presses, and drills.
  • Work effectively with engineers, quality inspectors, and other mechanics, and adhere strictly to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with vocational training or a certificate program in aviation maintenance or metalworking often preferred.
  • Relevant experience in aircraft sheet metal structural assembly and repair, typically a minimum of 2-5 years.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals (SRMs, AMMs, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, manual dexterity, the ability to work in a team, and a commitment to quality workmanship and safety.
  • Must be physically capable of working in cramped or confined spaces, at heights, and able to lift items up to 40-50 pounds.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • An FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license is often preferred or required for career advancement.
  • Experience with avionics, troubleshooting, avionics installation, wire harness, and avionics repair is beneficial.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
