As a Machinist Level 3 located in  Commerce, CA, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.

Our Commerce, CA site is in search of Machinist 3 to join our growing team on 2nd Shift (2:15pm - 11:45pm) 9/80 schedule.

Roles and Responsibilities:

As a Machinist 3 you will work on and inspect the next generation composite structures.

In this role, the machinist is responsible for but not limited to:

  • Setting up and operating Horizontal HAAS, DMG Mori lathe and 5-axis DMG Mori milling machines.
  • Determining sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup.
  • Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Measuring, spaning, and scribing dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining.
  • Fitting and assembling precision parts into mechanical equipment and determining material, parts, and equipment required.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Lay out, measure, and span metal stock to display placement of cuts.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Check workpieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
  • Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Support and implement new, customer-focused processes in accordance with lean principles and practices.
  • Provide training and coaching to improve standard work, work center organization (5S), and housekeeping. Actively provide change leadership as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED and 4 yrs of additional education and/or related experience
  • CNC 5-axis machining experience required
  • Experience with composite, honeycomb, and aluminum materials, forging and all hard metals such as stainless steel and titanium.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Experience with GD & T
  • Experience in following written set-up instructions and /or performing unique set-ups.
  • Experience in complex measurements and advanced shop math calculations relative to tolerances, dimensions, tooling, and feeds and speeds
  • Experience running machines and setup.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or Trade School certification w/ minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Experience with HAAS GM2 5-Axis Controller
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve unforeseen, unique issues as they arise in machining a part.
  • Ability to understand verbal and written work instructions with knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and disciplines.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and weekends as needed.

Primary Level Salary Range: $61,100.00 - $101,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
