Snohomish Flying Service is seeking a Chief Flight Instructor for an active Part 141 flight school established in 1950, located in the Puget Sound Region of Washington State. Snohomish Flying is a Cessna pilot center with fleet of 20 airplanes and 24 flight instructors.  

The Chief Flight Instructor is responsible for the overall training and safety of students at our Part 141 flight school. The Chief will lead a team of flight instructors and will be responsible for creating and implementing training programs and setting standards for flight instruction. 

  • Oversee the certification process for students, ensuring that all requirements are met before certification is granted 
  • Set standards for flight instruction and ensure that all instructors meet these standards 
  • Lead a team of flight instructors and provide ongoing training and support 
  • Interview, hire, train, and mentor new flight instructors 
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback and guidance as needed
  • Ensure that all flight operations are conducted safely and in compliance with FAA regulations 
  • Serve as a liaison between the flight school and the FAA 
  • Create and implement training programs that meet or exceed Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards 
  • Conduct initial and recurrent standardization of flight instructors in accordance with FAR 141 
  • Perform progress checks, end-of-course checks, and student training record audits
  • Monitor adherence to the approved Training Course Outlines
  • Keep up-to-date with industry developments and changes in FAA regulations 
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:
  • The Chief Flight Instructor will work full-time, with a mix of office, flight, and on-the-ground instruction. 
  • The Chief will be responsible for maintaining their own flight instructor certification through continuing education and recurrent training. 
  • The Chief will be required to pass flight and ground instruction evaluations, as well as annual flight checkrides.
  • The Chief will be expected to be available for some evening and weekend hours to accommodate students' schedules. 
  • The Chief will be expected to participate in safety meetings and training sessions to ensure the highest level of safety for all flight operations. 
  • The Chief will have the opportunity to participate in the development of new courses and curriculum for the flight school. 
  • The Chief will have to pass a background check and a pre-employment drug test. 

Qualifications: 

  • FAA CFI, CFII, and MEI Certification 
  • Meet 141.35 Chief Instructor requirements for the private, commercial, instrument, multi-   engine, CFI, CFII and MEI courses of training 
  • Previous Part 141 teaching experience required 
  • Knowledge of the Cessna CTA desirable
  • Current FAA second class medical
  • Training Fleet includes Evektor, C152's, C172's, C182's and Beechcraft Duchess. Must meet FAR & manufacturer’s legal weight & balance limitations for ALL aircraft listed above
  • Strong leadership and management skills 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Maintain professional attitude and appearance and display a strong work ethic
  • Be an effective communicator and possess excellent management and leadership skills, and detail oriented regarding student record keeping requirements
  • Thorough understanding of FAA regulations and flight instruction standards 
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
