Job Description:

Metrea also consists of six support groups (Operations, People, Finance, Legal, Strategy and Solutions) that guide the development of specific capabilities that Metreas files (product, projects, programs etc.) leverage to achieve their targets.

Group Overview 

Special Air Missions Group (SAM) is responsible for developing and delivering Metrea’s Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), Special Mobility, and Aerial Firefighting (AFF) capabilities. SAM oversees the integration of new mission systems, ensuring operational readiness across specialized aviation operations. It manages fleet maintenance, regulatory compliance, and strategic partnerships to enhance mission effectiveness. By consolidating expertise and infrastructure, SAM ensures Metrea’s airborne capabilities remain adaptable and mission-ready across dynamic operational environments.

Position Summary 

This position is contingent upon contract award. Reporting to the Head of Flight Operations, the King Air Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Captain delivers compliant, safe, reliable, effective, efficient, and evolvable flight operations in support of contracts with the US Government, allies, and partners. The Captain is responsible for leading assigned flight and mission crews in the execution of deployed multi-sensor ISR missions, ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and mission success in dynamic and contested environments.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Mission Leadership. Serve as Pilot in Command (PIC)and crew lead for deployed, multi-sensor ISR flight operations supporting US Government, allied, and partner nation objectives.
  • Flight Planning and Execution. Plan, brief, execute, and debrief ISR missions in accordance with Contractor Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), contractual tasking, and all applicable FAA, ICAO, and host-nation regulations.
  • Crew Coordination. Lead assigned flight and mission crews, ensuring effective communication, crew resource management (CRM), and disciplined execution throughout all mission phases.
  • Safety and Risk Management. Promote and actively implement the Safety Management System (SMS); identify operational hazards, assess risk, and implement mitigation strategies in alignment with organizational safety culture.
  • Operational Readiness. Maintain flight currency, medical qualification, and proficiency in assigned aircraft and mission systems; ensure crew readiness and compliance with training and qualification standards.
  • Aircraft Management. Oversee aircraft preflight, mission configuration, performance calculations, and maintenance coordination to ensure continuous airworthiness and mission availability.
  • Situational Awareness and Decision-Making. Exercise sound judgment and tactical decision-making in dynamic, deployed environments, ensuring mission success while prioritizing safety.
  • Communications and Reporting. Act as the primary in-flight liaison between the crew, site operations leadership, and mission command elements; provide accurate mission documentation, reports, and debriefs.
  • Mentorship and Team Development. Mentor and develop less experienced aircrew, fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continual improvement.
  • Deployed Operations Support. Operate effectively in remote or austere environments and adapt to mission schedules, extended duty periods, and changing operational priorities as required.
  • Security and Compliance: Protect classified and sensitive information in accordance with U.S. Government and company security policies, procedures, and contractual requirements.

Skills and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (any discipline) or a minimum of 4+ years of equivalent aviation experience.
  • FAA Commercial Airplane Multi-Engine Land Certificate with Instrument Rating, or Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
  • FAA First-or Second-Class Medical Certificate.
  • Minimum 1,000hoursPilot in Command (PIC) time.
  • Minimum 100 hours multi-engine time.
  • At least 2 years of operational experience in civil or military aviation environments.
  • Solid understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), particularly 14 CFR Parts 61 and 91.
  • Working knowledge of Aviation Management Systems, Safety Management Systems (SMS), and Risk Management Frameworks.
  • Skilled in aviation weather analysis, flight planning, and flight following tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Teams for external and internal coordination.
  • Applicants must meet all FAA records and background requirements, including an acceptable review of the FAA Pilot Records Database (PRD).

Preferred:

  • Type rated in BE-200 and/or BE-300aircraft.
  • FAA Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI), Instrument Instructor (CFII), and Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI); or graduate of a U.S. Military Flight Instructor Training Program.
  • Familiarity with DCMA 8210.1D and CNAF M-3710.7 flight operations requirements.
  • Understanding of ISR Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) and their application in deployed operations.
  • Demonstrated ability in critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, negotiation, conflict management, and time management within mission-driven environments.
  • Prior experience supporting U.S. Government or allied ISR missions in austere or deployed settings highly desirable.
