Hillsboro Aviation’s contract & charter division specializes in utility, executive charter, tours and excursions, and unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Our utility focus includes natural resources, aerial survey, firefighting, construction, film/photo/news, and heli-skiing. We have flown over 1.2 million hours and conducted missions ranging from firefighting to oil exploration and LiDAR to agriculture. Our fleet is comprised of the Bell 205A1++, Bell 407, Airbus AS350B3e, Bell 206, and Beechcraft King Air series.
 
The Position
The Powerline Utility Pilot will be a B407 utility pilot position for powerline work based out of Portland, OR. The pilot’s regularly scheduled administrative workweek will be eight-hour days from Monday through Friday, except for Federal Holidays. Schedule will be adjusted as needed to meet mission requirements. The successful applicant is expected to establish his or her place of living in the Portland area for the duration of the contract.
 
Job Responsibilities
The primary mission is to respond to emergency outages to conduct aerial inspection of damage and routine aerial line inspection of the entire transmission system (approximately 15,000 transmission miles) twice a year. In addition to the core missions:
  • Helicopters provide aerial survey support (LiDAR, fish and wildlife land surveys, and right-of-way inspections)
  • Aerial photography (Infrared, Corona, and Digital photography)
  • Specialized detail aerial inspection
  • External load operations to support maintenance and repair of the system

Job Requirements:
Qualifications/Licenses
  • Commercial rotorcraft helicopter license with instrument rating
  • Current class 1 or 2 medical
  • Current Passport
  • Current driver license with clean driving record
 
Required Skills/Experience
  • 3500 total time
  • 2000 hours helicopter total time
  • 2000 hours PIC / 300 hours PIC last 12 months / 75 hours actual or simulated IMC / 750 hours vertical reference to include precision long-line work / mountainous terrain experience
  • High altitude experience
  • Alaska or Pacific NW weather experience
 
Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Part 135 qualified for 5 years / Part 133 qualified (Class A, B and C) for 3 years
  • Previous vertical reference experience (up to 250 foot line)
  • 3 years OPS in electrical utility industry conducting construction or repair work such as spacer replacement, insulator replacement, pulling sock line or Class B Human External Cargo (HEC/ tower transfers)
  • Previous B206L4 experience
