The position requires the application of knowledge, practices, principles, theories, concepts, methods, techniques, and abilities for the discipline to which the position is classified. Responsibilities may or may not include inspection, oversight, planning, developing, coordinating, deploying, implementing, maintaining, training, and replacing systems of assigned facilities and/or systems. The incumbent is required to interact with personnel from the FAA Academy and representatives both internal and external to the FAA.
Serves as Air Transportation System Specialist technician providing organizational technical support for a multitude of highly complex integrated systems which directly support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Academy systems. Responsible and accountable for the performance and reliability of numerous interconnected systems essential to the operation of the NAS. The tasks include a wide array of complex and varied assignments, understanding of new and existing technologies and methods which require the application of technical knowledge of assigned discipline(s).
Performs assignments on a wide array of complex integrated systems and provides technical direction and guidance.
Interacts with information gathering systems with minimal supervision. Evaluates information derived from multiple databases, provides experience-based estimations, and uses automated and manual electronic information gathering systems to assess NAS performance and service quality.
Acts promptly to restore services and systems, considering backup availability, potential reconfigurations to reduce service disruptions, and the critical importance of specific systems to the safe and efficient operation of the NAS. Evaluates new or modified systems, determines necessary service enhancements, and establishes requirements to address anticipated future needs.
Assist others or works independently. Communicates with FAA Academy and representatives of external organizations to share essential information, provide critical data, as well as communicate project and system status.
Works with project managers to complete project studies and cost estimates. Project studies and cost estimates should include project manpower, material requirements, equipment utilization, and updated completion schedules.
Provides guidance and on-the-job training to other technicians and trainees in accordance with established practices and procedures. Provides guidance to resolve difficult technical or operational issues.
Interprets and adapts technical instructions, manufacturer’s manuals, FAA policies and procedures, and other publications.
Performs other duties as assigned.
