Flight Service Specialists working in Airport Advisory Services (AAS) provide a wide range of essential information, including weather observations and updates, runway advisories and controlling the movement of vehicles on runways and taxiways.

You do not require any prior specialized training or experience. And what’s best... we pay you to learn! The training is paid for and provided by NAV CANADA, and you will also receive a salary during training.   

The initial training course takes place in Montreal and lasts around 5 to 6 months. If you have to relocate for the initial training course, you may be eligible to receive a bi-weekly relocation allowance while completing that training. 

Following successful completion of the training program in Montreal, you will be assigned to one of the locations below. Once you certify at that location, your salary will increase to that of a Flight Service Specialist. 

Job Description

Flight Service Specialist – Airport Advisory Services (AAS) Certified salary $75,483 to $118,953 .

Training includes two phases: initial training (classroom and simulator) and on-the-job training. 

  • Training Salary: $46,862 

  • Average total duration of training: 8 to 11 months 

We have openings in the following Quebec locations: 

  • Iles-de-la-Madeleine* 

  • Mont-Joli * 

  • Rouyn* 

  • Sept-Îles* 

  • Val d&39;Or* 

  • Kuujjuaq** 

  • La Grande** 

*For Flight Service Specialist students posted to certain remote locations, we offer a location incentive. Locations will be assigned after successful completion of the initial training course. These incentives are paid, in addition to the annual salary, at the end of each year on site for three years. The incentives are as follows: 

  • $3,000.00 after first year 

  • $5,000.00 after second year 

  • $7,000.00 after third year 

**These locations are fly in and fly out locations. The schedules vary from site to site, but an example could be 14 days working on site (in Kuujjuaq or La Grande) and 14 days off back home. The cost of travel for the fly in and fly out locations is covered by NAV CANADA.

Our selection process is quite rigorous in order to thoroughly assess candidates for the core competencies required to be a Flight Service Specialist. This includes cognitive testing for the required competencies, language testing, and an assessment centre which include individual and group exercises. To apply for a career as a Flight Service Specialist, you must meet the following basic requirements prior to applying: 

  • Be 18 years or older, 

  • Have a secondary school diploma, or equivalency, 

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, 

  • Prepared to undergo a medical, security check, and drug testing (including cannabis), 

  • Ready to start training after successful completion of the recruitment and selection process, 

  • Able to meet our language requirements: Bilingual (French and English), 

  • All applicants must be willing to relocate to any of the locations listed above, assigned after successful completion of initial training. 

* Bilingualism (strong fluency in French and English) is required for this position.
