ABOUT THE ROLE AND THE TEAM:

This role ensures that all SITA hardware products meet global regulatory, safety, EMC, radio, environmental, accessibility, and country‑specific certification requirements across the full product lifecycle. The Regulatory Compliance Specialist acts as SITA’s internal technical authority on regulatory standards and compliance strategy, providing early-stage design guidance, managing global certification activities, and proactively monitoring upcoming regulatory changes.

By embedding compliance into product design from the earliest stages, this role protects SITA from regulatory failures, prevents costly redesigns, reduces certification risk, supports RFP responses, and ensures that SITA products can be legally sold, shipped, installed, and operated worldwide. The role is both technical and strategic, safeguarding SITA’s timelines, spanet access, and reputation across all global spanets.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Regulatory Expertise & Standards Ownership

  • Maintain strong working knowledge of global regulatory standards covering:
    • Electrical safety, EMC, radio and wireless regulations
    • Accessibility regulations (ADA, ACAA, EAA, CAN B651)
    • Environmental and material compliance (RoHS, REACH, WEEE, PFAS)
    • Trade, shipping, and packaging regulations (lithium batteries, HT wood stamping, trade sanctions)
  • Apply deep understanding of SITA hardware architectures to interpret and implement regulatory requirements in a practical, system-level manner.
  • Act as the internal subject-matter expert for compliance questions across product, engineering, legal, quality, and operations teams.

Early Design Review & Compliance-by-Design

  • Perform early-stage regulatory design reviews of CAD models prior to prototyping to ensure all applicable compliance requirements are addressed from the outset.
  • Identify and resolve potential safety, EMC, fire enclosure, and accessibility risks early to prevent late-stage redesigns and schedule delays.
  • Provide clear, actionable design guidance to engineering teams to ensure compliance is built into products rather than retrofitted.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineers to implement regulatory-driven design changes (e.g. fire enclosure updates) at the CAD stage, reducing engineering rework and certification risk.

Certification Labs & Testing Coordination

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with external certification bodies and test laboratories (e.g. Safety and EMC labs).
  • Conduct pre-assessment design reviews and construction evaluations to minimize test failures during formal certification.
  • Manage and prioritize urgent certification projects to support product timelines and customer commitments.
  • Conduct in-house testing and certification activities for large or complex equipment where applicable.
  • Select optimal certification pathways (including field evaluations where appropriate) to minimize cost while maintaining full compliance.

Radio Module Integration & EMC Compliance

  • Provide expert guidance on radio module integration in accordance with FCC, RED, and other global radio regulations.
  • Ensure compliant integration of Wi‑Fi, NFC payment, RFID, and other radio modules into host products such as kiosks and SBD systems.
  • Validate antenna compatibility, gain limits, installation requirements, and regulatory grants for radio modules.
  • Manage EMC testing for all SITA hardware products, applying standards such as CISPR 32, CISPR 35, FCC Part 15B, and relevant EN standards.
  • Troubleshoot EMC failures and guide engineering teams on corrective actions to achieve compliance.

Electrical Safety & Machinery Regulations

  • Own and apply electrical safety standards such as IEC 62368‑1, including knowledge of different editions adopted across global spanets.
  • Advise engineering teams on key safety topics including electrical hazards, mechanical stability, fire enclosures, and grounding.
  • Provide guidance on material flammability requirements (e.g. V‑0, V‑1, HB ratings).
  • Support compliance with additional regulations such as the Machinery Directive and associated standards (EN 60204, ISO 12100) applicable to SBD systems.
  • Deliver internal training and presentations to design and engineering teams on safety and regulatory requirements.

Legal, Accessibility & Cross‑Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate closely with SITA Legal to interpret regulatory requirements and obtain legal backing for compliance positions.
  • Provide detailed product and regulatory information to support legal reviews, declarations, and import requirements.
  • Work with accessibility consultants and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with ADA, EAA, and other accessibility regulations.
  • Conduct accessibility-focused design reviews to validate reach ranges, operability, and usability of hardware interfaces.

Proactive Regulatory Monitoring & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Proactively monitor upcoming regulatory changes through industry publications, webinars, seminars, and regulatory updates.
  • Assess applicability of new regulations to SITA products and engage stakeholders well ahead of enforcement deadlines.
  • Lead early engagement for new regulations (e.g. EAA, UKCA, RED cybersecurity requirements) to ensure timely compliance and avoid last-minute risk.
  • Act as the central coordination point for future regulations impacting hardware, cybersecurity, sustainability, and product safety.

RFP, Shipping & Documentation Support

  • Support Solutions and Sales teams by providing accurate regulatory and compliance responses for RFPs.
  • Provide frequent support to shipping and logistics teams, including preparation of:
    • Declarations of Conformity
    • Safety datasheets and material declarations
    • Product datasheets and certificates
  • Liaise with vendors to obtain required compliance documentation efficiently.

Environmental, Trade & Global Market Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations including RoHS, REACH, WEEE, PFAS, and emerging material restrictions.
  • Manage certifications and requirements such as ASIAD, country-specific approvals, and battery shipping regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with trade-related regulations including sanctions, CBAM, UFLPA, and material origin restrictions.
  • Manage HT wood packaging compliance and factory certifications to enable compliant global shipping.
  • Support certification activities across multiple global spanets including North America, EU, Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Qualifications

ABOUT YOUR SKILLS:
  • Minimum 5–8 years experience in regulatory compliance, product certification, or hardware regulatory engineering.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or a related technical discipline.
  • Formal training or certification in regulatory compliance, safety, or quality systems is highly advantageous.
  • Equivalent experience may be considered where appropriate.
  • Proven experience managing global certifications for complex hardware products.
  • Hands-on experience working with safety, EMC, radio, and environmental regulations.
  • Experience working with certification labs, legal teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners.
  • Experience in regulated, safety critical, or transportation environments is highly desirable.
  • Expert knowledge of global regulatory and certification frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of hardware design, manufacturing processes, and system-level compliance.
  • Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical engineering guidance.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and risk assessment skills.
  • Excellent cross functional communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Ability to proactively anticipate regulatory risks and drive early mitigation.
