MISSION:
As well as performing production welding, this operator leads problem or special projects in an effort to rework or fabricate product to customer specification. This operator accomplishes hands-on training of our Rework Welders and others as required. Also, this operator executes welding, data collection, etc. in support of welding engineering projects.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Train Rework Welders
A. Progress new or transfer welders through the Welder Development and Progression Program (SOP 59-16).
B. Assist all Rework Welders with skill application training or assistance.
C. Provide hands-on demonstration or training for new welding processes, welding of new alloys, or of new welding techniques.
D. Participate in performance measure feedback and performance review of Rework Welders.
2. Welding Engineering Project Support:
A. Execute welding engineering directed experiments/tests.
B. Assist in planning of special or problem part rework.
C. Lead the work of other operators on special or problem part rework.
D. Participate in writing/revision of technique cards, SOP’s, PCP’s, etc.
3. Production Welding Support
A. Perform all duties of Rework Welder.
B. Schedule and monitor certification tests for all welders in assigned departments.
C. Advise and/or assist supervision with movement of manpower/product between departments.
D. Alert welding engineers and/or department supervisors of product needing special attention.
E. Facilitate performance measurement data collection and operator feedback within assigned departments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must currently hold position of a Step 6 Rework Welder.
2. GTAW IIIb-SA certification required.
3. A record of 80 or better “first try” welding certification test successes required.
4. Position required incumbent be willing, as required by production needs, to change department assignments, work with others in more than one department, and to adjust shift schedules.
5. Outstanding performance in prior progression through Welder Development and Progression Program (SOP 59-16) is desired. Does not apply to welders who did not have access to the program.)
6. Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions, make progress observations, and accurately record technical data required.
7. Demonstrated ability to write clear work instructions, process records, and training records required.
8. Experience effectively teaching individuals and/or small groups desired.
9. Position required incumbent be willing to lead the work of other individuals or small groups.
10. Satisfactory attendance record required.
11. Satisfactory safety record required.
