Job Description:

The Safety Program Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety programs to ensure a safe, inclusive, and compliant environment for all members and operations of the Association. The role involves coordinating with regulatory bodies, developing aviation safety programs, providing safety training, promoting a culture of safety within the TBM aviation community, and collaborating with other owner/operator aircraft associations on safety issues.

This job is 100% remote with travel.

Objective:

To lead and enhance the TBMOPA Safety Program and initiatives, ensuring the highest safety standards and practices for TBM owners and pilots, and to contribute to the strategic goals of TBMOPA by providing expert guidance on all safety-related matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Policy Development and Implementation:
    • Develop and update safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, national, and international aviation regulations.
    • Ensure that safety practices are implemented and adhered to across all operations.
  • Safety Program Management:
    • Develop a comprehensive TBMOPA Safety Program building on the foundation of the current Safety Program and incorporating best practices and industry-standard safety program elements.
  • Safety Training and Education:
    • Organize and conduct aviation safety training sessions for association members including pilots, instructors, ground staff, and maintenance teams.
    • Develop and curate educational materials and programs to enhance safety awareness.
  • Incident Investigation and Reporting:
      • Lead investigations of any incidents or accidents within the association’s operations.
      • Prepare and maintain reports on accidents and incidents including analysis and lessons learned to prevent future occurrences.
  • Insurance and Risk Management:
    • Work with insurance underwriters to address the challenges of low-time and aging pilots, and safety-related issues that will help to achieve favorable insurance terms for members.
  • Member Engagement in Safety:
    • Work with the Executive Director to develop and implement strategies to increase member participation in safety programs and volunteer roles, emphasizing the value of safety training and awareness.
  • Event Planning and Execution:
    • Work with and participate in the planning and execution of TBMOPA events ensuring a focus on safety awareness and education with the Executive Director.
  • Strategic Planning:
    • Contribute to the strategic planning process focusing on safety as a core component of member value and organizational growth.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the Board of Directors, Pillar Teams, and members to identify and implement new safety initiatives.
    • Work with the TBMOPA Safety Foundation Directors on joint projects and investments.
Job Requirements:
  • Proven aviation safety experience, preferably focusing on TBMs or turboprop aircraft.
  • Strong background in pilot training and safety program development.
  • Thorough understanding of aviation regulations and standards.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a volunteer board and membership base.
  • Familiarity with using technology to enhance safety training and awareness.
  • Relevant certifications in safety management (e.g., BS or MS degree in Aviation Safety, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or similar) are highly desired.
Salary Range: $80,000-$95,000
Travel: Travel is required on occasion
