  • This roles serves as the Surface Traffic Management team liaison between multiple American Airlines operational departments, including but not limited to: Hub Control Centers and Gateways, the Integrated Operations Center (IOC), and Operations Planning & Performance (OP&P)
  • This roles identifies and provides analytical solutions related to airport and airspace traffic, supports the surface management systems suite of products, and ensures that automation capabilities align with business processes and needs.

  • Identify, analyze, and solve problems in support of surface efficiency initiatives
  • Takes initiative to improve existing systems by performing deep dive analyses of all aspects of operational performance, covering a wide variety of strategic and operational analysis
  • Mine, model, analyze and evaluate operational data to identify root cause factors impacting operational reliability and performance
  • Collaborate with various cross-functional teams including CC hubs, IOC, and functional groups leadership (maintenance, customer experience, tech ops, etc.) to develop and implement analytical strategies that improve operational performance
  • Establishes strong professional relationships with vendors, internal and external business partners groups to ensure corporate systems meet the needs of all interested groups
  • Utilize statistical analysis, simulations, predictive modeling, or other analytical methods to analyze data and develop practical solutions to business problems
  • Perform data analysis, model building, and output testing using SAS, R, and Python
  • Provide periodic updates on drivers of operational issues and progress made with associated analytical strategies
  • Develop presentations and present findings with recommendations to the operating groups and senior leaders, assisting management with decision-making. 
  • Respond to ad hoc data/analysis requests from various departments and customize presentations based on specific audience
All youll need for success

Minimum Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Analytics, Management Information Systems, or equivalent experience in quantitative analysis field
  • 3+ years of related work experience
  • Advanced knowledge of R, Python, Java, SAS or other relevant programming languages 
  • Experience with tableau, Power BI or any other Business Intelligence data visualization and reporting platform
  • Ability to pull and push data to Data Lake, Teradata, and HDFS storage using SQL, Spark, and data analysis technologies
  • Experience writing complex queries and applying ETL techniques to collate, analyze data, and answer problem-solving questions

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Prior airline operations experience strongly desired
  • Previous quantitative analyst experience
  • Knowledge of airline and/or airport operational systems and decision support tools 

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • The ability to use computer-based tools and programming languages to implement solutions is required 
  • Experience writing SQL queries, Big Data or with other data mining packages
  • knowledge of FLIFO concepts (OOOI)
  • Strong business and technical acumen, innovative mindset and a drive for results
  • Ability to interpret operational performance through various channels, and identify irregularities and propose solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to perform both independently and as a team member, multitask, complete assigned tasking on time, perform well in a fast-paced environment and expeditiously respond to changing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal, relational, and communication skills (both oral and written), including presentation and training aptitude
