The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Contracts Specialist to support our strategic new business bids and proposals for some of the most exciting defence and aerospace programs in Australia and beyond.
What were looking for:
- Experienced contracts (or in house legal) professional
- “Can-do” self-starter with experience advising and influencing senior stakeholders
- Proven record of delivering commercial outcomes for their customers
- Experience supporting bids / proposals in complex industries
Reporting to BDAs Director of Contracts, the role requires a breadth of technical and leadership responsibilities and will play a key role in supporting BDAs growth.
Key Responsibilities for this position include:
- Provide strategic advice and support to campaign teams on contractual and commercial issues.
- Develop competitive responses to requests for tender and proposals, balancing customer requirements with advancing BDAs goals and strategies.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior customer stakeholders on all contract and commercial matters.
- Lead contract negotiations to achieve the BDAs desired commercial outcomes.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of BDAs contracts team, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Support and mentor more junior contracts colleagues
- Work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, to achieve BDAs strategic goals.
- Exercise appropriate signature authority in negotiating and executing contractual instruments on behalf of the company.
Experience and Qualifications
- Essential:
- Formal qualifications in a related discipline (Law, Accounting or Business Management)
- Advanced skills in complex contracting, commercial management and negotiation
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop contracting specialists
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong commercial acumen
- Excellent drafting skills
- Desirable
- Australian Defence industry experience
- Knowledge of and experience working with the Australian Standard Defence Contracting (ASDEFCON) Suite of Templates
- Demonstrated experience in formulating innovative contractual and commercial acquisition and sustainment strategies for proposals
