Key Responsibilities:

This position is primarily responsible for conducting thorough, prompt and objective investigations into allegations of misconduct and other human resources related investigations and/or policy violations. The individual is to be a neutral fact finder that ensures the allegations are investigated efficiently, thoroughly reviewed and addressed in compliance with established policies and procedures. The Employee Relations Senior Specialist also serves as a consultant and advisor to senior leadership, business partners as well as other employees within their respective location.

  • Investigates all Human Resources assigned or directly reported complaints
  • Responsible for intake, researching the allegation, developing an investigation plan, conducting effective interviews and data collection, completing a written report, and communicating an appropriate summary to relevant parties
  • Works closely with leaders within the Human Resources, Labor Relations, Legal, Corporate Security, Ethics & Compliance, and other departments across Uniteds organization
  • Compiles all investigation data within the appropriate case management database
  • Discipline Review Panel and Corrective Action Committee administrative functions.
  • Must have the ability to effectively document all interview notes and case documentation within a timely fashion
  • Serves as a subject matter expert to all levels of management and Human Resources Business Partners regarding employment and labor law in support of employee engagement
  • Partners with Labor Relations, HR Business Partners, Corporate Security, Ethics & Compliance and Legal when conducting investigations to provide counsel and facilitate prompt and effective resolution of workplace concerns

The salary for this position is $73,425 to $107,690, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education and skills. This range is based on a full-time schedule.

QualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelors degree in HR, Business Administration, Criminal Justice or other related fields and/or equivalent work experience
  • 3 or more years Employee Relations, Human Resources, Labor Relations, corporate law, investigation or equivalent work experience
  • Strong analytical, fact-finding and evidence gathering skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in order to effectively connect with leadership
  • Ability to build and maintain credibility within all levels of the organization
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive, employment-related information
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and exercise a sense of urgency in handling multiple cases, effectively planning, organizing and prioritizing cases
  • Experience working with and the ability to partner with Legal Counsel, Human Resources, Labor Relations, etc.
  • Skills in mediation and problem resolution methods
  • Ability to develop and facilitate classroom and other methods of training to all levels of the organization to mitigate organizational risk, promote Uniteds Core 4 values, ethics policies and improve managerial skills and field leadership
  • Demonstrate high ethical and professional standards that translate to building trust and confidence with internal customers throughout the United organization
  • Demonstrate autonomy in decision-making and recommendations when working with business partners, internal and external to United
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of human resources management and labor relations in the United Airlines environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and ability to learn and use Convercent, PeopleSoft, Taleo and Cornerstone software
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable state and federal employment and labor laws and the compliance requirements of those laws
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position
