Summary

An Oracle Applications Database Administrator provides SMC with design, implementation and production support for our Oracle databases supporting EBS and other application systems. This includes sizing, tuning, patching and other maintenance of existing systems. The administrator must have strong and comprehensive Oracle database administration skills coupled with a good and practical knowledge of Oracle Application Servers. The candidate must also possess excellent interpersonal skills and have a strong background in working with application developers across all modules and extended EBS systems (HR, FIN, PO, WIP, INV, BOM, QSS, Maximo, Shopfloor, ADP, etc). This individual also has responsibility for Databases associated with the APEX / Discoverer applications and working with developers accountable for PL/SQL and the traditional Oracle development toolset (Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, Oracle APEX and Oracle Discoverer).

Technical
  • Provide ongoing support and enhancements on a range of Oracle databases used by our enterprise systems landscape (Oracle E-Business Suite 11i and Oracle E-Business Suite R12).
  • Provide project and enhancement work on a range of new and existing Oracle databases and applications.
  • Perform routine administration and performance monitoring activities to ensure optimal operation of the Oracle databases.
  • Operational experience with Linux scripting, OEM, and Toad is required.
  • Provide advice and guidance where necessary to development staff.
  • Provide support outside of normal office hours on a pre-planned basis and at short notice in emergency situations.
  • Complete tickets assigned and other requests within a mutually agreed upon time.

Functional
  • Proactively monitor applications and provide a regular report to developers highlighting where changes to the application will benefit performance.
  • Manage database backups/restores and disaster recovery in cooperation with infrastructure team.
  • Crosstrain developers and server administrators on good database design.
  • Proactively monitor and report on system resources being consumed. Provide early warning of resource contentions and shortages to management with recommended course of action.
  • Identify problem trends and proactively take action to reduce re-occurring incidents.
  • Refresh non-production environments from production.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies related to areas of responsibility.

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience and/or current Oracle Accredited DBA status may be acceptable substitutes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and at least 10 years overall experience in each of the following: Oracle PL/SQL, Oracle Database Administration, and Oracle Application Server Administration.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in supporting an ERP environment (specifically Oracle EBS 11i and R12).
  • Experience in deploying Oracle Forms and Reports via Oracle Application Server is a plus.
  • Experience in deploying and maintaining Apache and Tomcat is a plus.
  • Oracle APEX and Discoverer administration skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Red Hat Linux and HP-UX operating systems as it relates to the installation, operation and administration of Oracle Database and Application server products.
  • HP-UX, Linux, and shell scripting capability.
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley and IT audit processes and procedures.
