Position Summary

The Aircraft Avionics Technician is responsible for conducting, maintaining, testing, and repairing electrical and electronic aircraft systems and components in accordance with all FAA, repair station, and manufacturer airworthiness standards. This position is safety-sensitive and requires consistent adherence to regulatory and workplace safety requirements.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform all aircraft electrical and avionics maintenance in accordance with FAA-approved data and established workmanship standards.
  • Maintain safety of flight as the highest priority during all tasks.
  • Conduct routine and special inspections to prevent electrical/avionics system failures.
  • Perform operational and functional checks on navigation, communication, flight control, instrumentation, and pitot-static systems.
  • Fabricate wiring harnesses and install/modify avionics and electrical systems.
  • Determine appropriate repair methods, replacement needs, and required parts.
  • Follow all approved maintenance procedures and technical documentation.
  • Conduct serviceability testing using OEM-specified equipment.
  • Complete all documentation accurately, including required sign-offs.
  • Install and troubleshoot avionics equipment, wiring, and electrical components.
  • Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical data.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace malfunctioning assemblies using proper tools and soldering equipment.
  • Install electrical/electronic components and systems using hand tools and power tools.
  • Analyze flight test data to identify malfunctions or performance issues.
  • Set up and operate ground support/test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair defective components and systems.
  • Recommend improvements to maintenance processes.
  • Meet all scheduling and task completion requirements.
  • Apply thorough knowledge of electrical, electronic, and mechanical principles, codes, and materials.
  • Provide guidance to operators and mechanics on safe equipment operation.
  • Communicate potential hazards or equipment concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance and technical troubleshooting.
  • Assist and train other maintenance or technical employees.
  • Maintain shop tools and equipment in serviceable condition.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and hazard-free.
  • Follow all safety practices, including PPE, chemical handling, fall protection, and equipment safety.
  • Maintain a constant state of alertness to safely perform all job functions.
  • Comply with OSHA requirements and organizational safety policies.
  • Participate in on-the-job training and maintain required attendance.
Job Requirements:
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license preferred, not required.
  • FCC 2nd Class License preferred, not required.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of electrical/electronics experience.
  • Prior avionics experience required.
  • Prior aircraft maintenance experience required.
  • Experience with turbo-prop aircraft preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in interpreting wiring diagrams, schematics, and avionics documentation.
  • Skilled in wire identification, harness fabrication, cable assembly, connectors, and coax systems.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical/electronic components and diagnostic instruments.
  • Ability to inspect and install digital avionics equipment.
  • Strong precision skills and ability to work within tight tolerances.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and schematics in English.

Communication Skills

  • English proficiency required (spoken and written).
  • Spanish bilingual ability is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Regular: standing, walking, manual dexterity, speaking, hearing, vision, working in confined spaces.
  • Frequent: sitting, climbing, balancing, squatting, kneeling.
  • Ability to lift or assist with lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in loud environments as needed.

Travel

  • Up to 10% domestic and international travel.
