The Avionics Manager at Toledo Jet is responsible for overseeing avionics maintenance, troubleshooting, modification, and installation activities within the Part 145 Repair Station. This role ensures avionics work is performed in compliance with FAA regulations, manufacturer technical data, and company procedures while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. The Avionics Manager provides technical leadership for avionics technicians, supports aircraft upgrade and retrofit projects, and plays a key role in quoting, planning, and executing avionics installations.
The position requires diagnosing and resolving avionics and electrical system discrepancies, managing installation projects such as navigation, communication, connectivity, and cockpit upgrade systems, and ensuring all work is properly documented in accordance with FAA requirements. The Avionics Manager coordinates closely with maintenance leadership, sales, and customers to develop accurate quotes for avionics upgrades and modifications, ensuring proper labor estimates, equipment compatibility, and project timelines.
Additional responsibilities include supervising avionics technicians, maintaining compliance with Part 145 repair station procedures, verifying work is completed in accordance with approved technical data, and ensuring proper documentation in maintenance records and tracking systems. The Avionics Manager supports project planning, parts coordination, and installation scheduling to ensure efficient workflow and timely aircraft delivery.
This role also requires maintaining current knowledge of avionics systems, STCs, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies in the corporate aviation industry. The Avionics Manager will help maintain a safe and organized work environment, assist with troubleshooting complex aircraft system issues, and support aircraft-on-ground (AOG) situations as needed within a professional MRO environment.
Key Responsibilities
Avionics Maintenance & Installation
- Oversee and perform avionics troubleshooting, repair, modification, and installation on corporate aircraft.
- Manage avionics upgrade projects including navigation, communication, ADS-B, connectivity, and cockpit modernization systems.
- Ensure all avionics work is performed in accordance with FAA regulations, manufacturer technical data, STCs, and company repair station procedures.
- Review installation plans, wiring diagrams, and engineering data to ensure proper system integration and compliance.
Project Management & Quoting
- Develop accurate avionics installation quotes including labor estimates, parts requirements, and project timelines.
- Work with sales, customers, and maintenance leadership to define upgrade scope and technical feasibility.
- Plan and coordinate avionics installation schedules to ensure efficient workflow and on-time aircraft delivery.
- Identify potential project risks, installation challenges, and cost considerations prior to project start.
Technical Leadership
- Supervise and provide technical guidance to avionics technicians and installers.
- Assist technicians with complex troubleshooting and system integration challenges.
- Verify avionics work is completed to quality standards and in accordance with approved data.
- Support workforce training and development to maintain technical proficiency.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with FAA Part 145 repair station requirements and company quality procedures.
- Review and approve maintenance documentation, logbook entries, and work orders.
- Maintain accurate records in maintenance tracking systems.
- Support internal audits and FAA inspections related to avionics operations.
Operational Support
- Coordinate with maintenance leadership to support overall aircraft maintenance activities.
- Assist with parts identification and procurement for avionics installations.
