Position Summary

PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking a skilled Avionics Technician to join our dynamic MRO team in Mobile, Alabama. This role is responsible for maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing aircraft electrical and avionics systems in strict compliance with FAA regulations, repair station requirements, and manufacturer airworthiness standards.

This is a safety-sensitive position, requiring continuous alertness and adherence to all FAA, OSHA, and company safety requirements to ensure the reliability and airworthiness of military aircraft systems.


??? Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all maintenance using FAA-approved data and established workmanship standards per the client.
  • Maintain safety of flight as the top priority in all work performed.
  • Conduct routine and special inspections to prevent failures in aircraft electrical and avionics systems.
  • Perform operational and functional checks on:
    • Navigation, communication, flight control, and instrumentation systems
    • Pitot-static systems and related components
  • Fabricate wiring harnesses and install or modify avionics and electrical systems.
  • Interpret avionics/electrical wiring diagrams, identify wiring, fabricate harnesses, and ensure wiring, cable, and connector integrity.
  • Install, adjust, repair, and replace avionics and electronic components using hand tools, power tools, and soldering equipment.
  • Determine repair vs. replacement of components and identify appropriate repair methods and required parts.
  • Perform serviceability and functional tests using OEM-specified test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, rework, and modify defective components and assemblies.
  • Interpret flight-test data to diagnose system malfunctions.
  • Set up and operate ground support and test equipment.
  • Complete work package documentation and sign-offs upon task completion.
  • Suggest improvements to processes and procedures.
  • Assist, train, and support other maintenance and technical personnel.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and assigned work areas in safe, serviceable condition.
  • Comply with all OSHA, FAA, and company safety regulations.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities as assigned.
  • Participate in required on-the-job training.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance per company policy.
Job Requirements:

Education & Certifications

Preferred / Plus:

  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License
  • FCC 2nd Class License
  • Experience with turboprop aircraft

? Qualifications & Experience

  • 3–5 years of proven avionics and aircraft electrical/electronics experience
  • Prior experience in aircraft maintenance (required)
  • Strong proficiency in:
    • Avionic/electrical wiring diagrams
    • Wire identification and harness fabrication
    • Cables, connectors, fittings, circuits, and digital avionics installations
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and diagnostic equipment
  • Ability to inspect and install digital avionics systems
  • High degree of precision and attention to detail
  • Ability to work efficiently while maintaining quality and compliance
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Must be safety-conscious at all times
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills in English (Spanish bilingual a plus)

?? Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to stand regularly and use hands and fingers for precision tasks
  • Frequently required to sit, climb, balance, and work in confined spaces
  • Must be able to lift or assist lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Exposure to elevated noise levels at times
  • Use of hearing, eye, fall, and chemical safety protection required

  • Up to 10% domestic and international travel possible
