What you can expect as an Avionics Quality Control Inspector at West Star:

The Avionics Quality Control Inspector maintains West Star Aviation’s quality standards in accordance with the West Star Repair Station/Quality Control Manual and the Federal Aviation Regulations. The job includes varying duties each day, but include performing work order surveillance and creating maintenance log entries for all maintenance and modifications to aircraft assigned. Completing all FAA approval and return to service paperwork as required, to support production and our customers, assisting Engineering personnel in assuring alterations and repairs are accomplished in accordance with the Federal Aviation Regulations and ensuring quality control and release of aircraft meet the West Star Aviation Repair Station Manual and FAA requirements. This position requires a strong knowledge of aircraft airframe, avionics, and electrical systems.

You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:

  • Inspect work of avionics technicians performing maintenance, modification, or repair of aircraft and aircraft avionics systems to ensure compliance with Repair Station and FAA standards, procedures and regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed repair, inspection, investigation, and certification records and reports.
  • Inspect new, repaired, or modified aircraft to identify damage or defects and to assess airworthiness and conformance to standards, using checklists, hand tools, and test instruments.
  • Assist with preparation of FAA Form 337s to document major repairs and alterations; this includes coordination with engineering to procure necessary drawings, data, and approvals.
  • Verify modifications are carried out per the applicable engineering drawings and ensure major repairs and alterations have necessary approved data. 
  • Oversee, conduct and document flight tests to test equipment, instruments, and systems under a variety of conditions in coordination with Maintenance Technicians. 
  • Ensure, document, and track the competency of persons operating, installing, and repairing aircraft equipment according to Repair Station procedures and FAA regulations. 
  • Release aircraft to return aircraft to service.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

What you’ll need to bring with you:

 

Your Education:

A High school diploma or equivalent is required.

A&P License or Repairman Certificate will be required.

 Inspection Authorization (IA) rating is recommended.

Associates degree in Aviation Technology recommended.

A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not required

 

Your Experience :

Thorough knowledge of FAA regulations.

8 years progressive experience as an aircraft avionics maintenance technician with sign-off authority 

4 years aircraft inspection experience with at least 1-year return to service authority  

Strong knowledge of FAA requirements, work orders, and the customer billing process 

The ability to read electrical and structural prints is required

Maintain customer oriented work habits for oneself and the department.

Actively work to maintain work order system current.

Lift and carry at least 25 lbs.

Bend, reach and stoop when around aircraft.

Sit at desk and / or computer for extended intervals.

Routinely walking.

Working Conditions
