Job Description
The Electronic Technician supports the Avionics Department by testing, assembling, and maintaining advanced electronic systems that are crucial for mission-critical applications. This role focuses on hands-on work with circuit boards and electronic components, ensuring systems meet rigorous performance and quality standards through detailed diagnostics, repair, and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electronic systems, components, and equipment used in mission-critical applications.
- Diagnose and repair circuit boards, wiring, and other electronic components to restore proper functionality.
- Perform operational tests under environmental stress screening, vibration, and thermal conditions to verify compliance with design specifications.
- Diagnose and isolate malfunctions down to the component level using appropriate tools and methodologies.
- Conduct defined engineering tests and collect accurate data as assigned to support engineering and quality efforts.
- Document test results, repairs, and maintenance activities clearly and accurately in accordance with internal procedures.
- Perform complex IPC-class circuit card surface mount rework to a high standard of quality and reliability.
- Perform self-inspection of solder quality to ensure work meets applicable standards and specifications.
- Perform diagnostics and root cause analysis using oscilloscopes, multimeters, RF generators, and spectrum analyzers.
- Maintain strict compliance with safety, quality, and security standards in all work activities.
Essential Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with electrical and electronic systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting analog and digital circuits at the component level.
- Ability to perform complex surface mount rework on circuit cards in accordance with IPC-class standards.
- Ability to perform self-inspection of solder joints and overall solder quality.
- Proficiency using oscilloscopes, multimeters, RF generators, and spectrum analyzers for diagnostics and root cause analysis.
- Understanding of AS9100 quality compliance requirements.
- High School diploma and 7 years of related electronics experience, or electronics training equivalent to 4 years of technical trade school or military technical school.
- Experience with component-level troubleshooting of electronic assemblies.
- Familiarity with surface mount soldering, digital and analog circuits, or embedded electronics.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- IPC-A-610 certification preferred.
- Familiarity with RF systems, digital and analog circuits, or embedded electronics.
- Experience with component-level troubleshooting in a production or maintenance environment.
- Experience using VOM, DVM, and similar electronic test apparatus.
- Experience from a technical trade school or military technical school in electronics is highly valued.

Work Environment
This role is based at a major autonomous systems hub in Rancho Bernardo, CA, dedicated to the design, development, and software engineering of unmanned aircraft systems, including platforms such as the RQ-4 Global Hawk, MQ-4C Triton, and MQ-8 Fire Scout. The environment is highly technical and engineering-driven, with regular use of oscilloscopes, multimeters, RF generators, spectrum analyzers, and other electronic test equipment to support avionics and electronic systems work. The position follows a first-shift schedule on a 4/10 workweek, typically from 6:30 a.m. to 4:40 p.m., with every Friday off, providing a predictable and stable work routine in a structured lab and production setting.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
