Role SummaryPDS Tech Commercial is seeking an experienced Electronic Technician III to support a leading innovator in the aviation industry within its Avionics Lab environment in San Diego, CA. In this role, you will work hands-on with advanced electronic systems that are essential to mission-critical aerospace applications.
You will be responsible for assembling, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining sophisticated electronic assemblies and circuit card systems—ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and safety. This is a high-impact position for technicians who take pride in precision work and thrive in fast-paced, quality-driven environments.
Key Responsibilities- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electronic systems, components, and equipment
- Diagnose and repair circuit boards, wiring, and electronic assemblies down to component level
- Perform environmental and performance testing including vibration, thermal, and stress screening
- Conduct defined engineering tests and accurately collect and document test data
- Execute complex IPC Class III surface mount rework and perform self-inspection of solder quality
- Identify, isolate, and resolve electronic malfunctions with precision troubleshooting techniques
- Maintain accurate documentation of test results, repairs, and maintenance activities
- Ensure compliance with AS9100 quality standards and support internal/external audits
- Adhere to strict safety protocols including FOD (Foreign Object Damage), FOE (Foreign Object Elimination), and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) standards
Required Qualifications- 7+ years of related electronic technician experience
OR
Completion of 4 years of technical trade school or military technical training in electronics - Strong knowledge of electronic systems, circuit card assemblies, and troubleshooting techniques
- Experience working in a regulated quality environment (AS9100 or equivalent)
- Ability to perform detailed technical documentation and testing procedures
- Familiarity with aviation or aerospace electronic systems preferred
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with surface mount soldering and IPC Class III standards
- Strong understanding of digital, analog, and embedded electronic systems
- Component-level troubleshooting expertise
- Certifications such as:
- IPC-A-610 Class III
- IPC-J-STD-001 (Space)
- IPC-WHMA-620 (Space)
- IPC-7711/7721
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
- Experience serving as or working with a Certified IPC Trainer
