Master Thesis in the Field of Embedded Real-Time Software Development in Avionics

Airbus Defence and Space is developing embedded real-time software for military aircraft. Next to the operational flight program the following aspects have to be covered: 

• Measures for dealing with non-deterministic multi-core hardware

• Hypervisors and real-time operating systems that offer partitions for software of different development assurance levels

• Configuration of middleware for distributed (within and across a platform) computing enabling data centric approaches

• Applications in virtual machines and containers for increasing portability

• Assessment and enhancement of development processes implementing standards and agile methods consistently

• Providing methods and tools for increasing development efficiency including coding assistance tools

• Exploring network communication mechanisms for dealing with distributed platforms

• Enhancement of cyber-security to match increasing connectivity 

• Reducing high operator workload by AI technologies

The domains mentioned above are covered in our department. The thesis will elaborate on one of those domains and is going to investigate in-depth. The topic will be according to the applicant’s competence and the current demand raised by our research and technology projects. The thesis is supervised in our department Avionics Real Time Software.

Your tasks and responsibilities

• Literature study to identify research gaps and promising approaches in the chosen topic

• Design and implement solutions, perform tests and collect data 

• Validate and verify your work with team members and external partners

 Desired skills and qualifications

• Enrolled in Master’s program in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, mechanical engineering or related fields 

• Fluent English skills are mandatory

• German would be an asset
