Boeing Commercial Airplanes in Long Beach facility is seeking a talented Structural Stress Engineer to specialize in the analysis and design of structural components, specifically focusing on floor structure, fuselage, and wing of the Boeing 777-8F/-9 aircraft. The structures analysis engineer has a solid understanding of airplane structural analysis methods and tools for both metallic and composite structures.

Responsibility:

Structural Analysis: Conduct advanced stress analysis using finite element methods to evaluate the primary structures, focusing on primary structure of the Boeing 777-8F/-9.

Development Optimization: Managing and maintaining schedules in order to collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize structural components for weight efficiency, meeting regulatory requirements and safety standards.

Fatigue and Damage Tolerance: Perform detailed fatigue and damage tolerance analysis to enhance the durability and reliability of primary structural components.

Design Integration: Work closely with design, materials, and systems engineering teams to seamlessly integrate stress analysis solutions into the overall development of the 777-8F.

Problem Solving: Address complex structural challenges, providing innovative and practical solutions to ensure the structural integrity of the 777-8/-9.

Certification Support: Interface with certification authorities to ensure compliance with aviation regulations and industry standards for the 777-8F/-9 development.

Collaboration: Engage with suppliers and external partners to address structural challenges, implement design improvements, and ensure high-quality manufacturing processes.

Mentorship: Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers, contributing to a collaborative and innovative work environment.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

This position is expected to be 100 onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Long Beach, CA.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Currently possess a Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering.
  • 2&43; years of experience with structural design principles (e.g., materials strength, material characteristics, manufacturing processes, fatigue, damage tolerance, corrosion, stress analysis).
  • 1&43; years of experience with structural analysis of metallic and composite structures.
  • Candidate must possess excellent understanding of analytical and problem-solving skills of Aircraft structural design and Analysis (Floor Structure, Fuselage, Wing), typically, 1&43; years.
  • 2&43; years of robust understanding of engineering fundamentals such as material properties, static analysis, Free-body diagrams, structural loads and analysis methods
  • Ability to work in a cross functional environment
  • Ability to work on-site 5 days per week

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Good verbal and written communication skills to liaise with several Stakeholders and write Stress Check notes SCN.
  • Experience working with Industry Standards, Regulations and Certification requirements
  • 1 &43; years of experience in utilizing FEM software (e.g. PATRAN/NASTRAN, ABAQUS, Hyperworks)
  • Experience with Boeing specific applications tools: FEADMS, EXCEL, IAS, IDTAS, FAMOSS, MOSS-DUBERG (MD) CASTLE and others is desirable
  • Experience in using CAD (CATIA) and PDM (ENOVIA) is desirable

Typical Education/Experience:

In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study course of study, in Engineering, including Mechanical, Aeronautical, Astronautical, Aerospace, and Civil.

Experienced:

Typically, 2 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master).

Mid-Career:

Typically, 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD or Master &43; 3 years related work experience).

Expert:

Typically, 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD or Master &43; 7 years related work experience).

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Pay Range:

Experienced (Level 2): $81,600 - $110,200
Mid-Career (Level 3): $102,900 - $137,600
Expert (Level 4): $125,000 - $167,500
