A fantastic opportunity has arisen within the ATR Engineering directorate, as part of the Systems & Propulsion Engineering department : the position of Head of Avionics Engineering is open for application !

POSITION SUMMARY

As the Head of the Avionics Engineering group, you will lead the team (composed of 15&43; team members) in charge of the architecture, specification, development, integration, certification and support activities for all ATR Avionics systems, which includes :

  • Autoflight (ATA 22) systems
  • Navigation & Surveillance (ATA 34) systems
  • Communications & Audio (ATA 23) systems
  • Indicating & Recording (ATA 31) systems
  • IMA / Network (ATA 42), Maintenance (ATA 45) and Information (ATA 46) systems

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

You will lead and coordinate the team in charge of the following activities, throughout the aircraft life cycle, in constant close collaboration with other ATR directorates including Programme, Procurement, Customer Support, Production, Marketing & Sales, Quality and Human Resources :

  • Provide technical support to Aircraft Operators
  • Ensure continued airworthiness of our products, including investigation of in-service events and participation to Airworthiness Review Meetings with Airworthiness Authorities
  • Provide technical support to Production line & Aircraft delivery, including troubleshooting of aircraft and processing of potential concessions
  • Ensure the quality of Systems & Equipment definition, in compliance with regulatory obligations and applicable technical directives
  • Develop Aircraft Systems/Equipment modifications, for all aircraft versions, in accordance with ATR product policy
    • Perform preliminary studies and Request for Information / Proposal for supplier selection
    • Produce Statement of Work documents and Systems/Equipment/Interface specifications
    • Perform Design Reviews and run Verification & Validation activities in accordance with ARP4754
    • Steer & monitor Suppliers and Partners in their development activities, through regular technical & project reviews as well as on-site visits
    • Instruct Aircraft modifications as per the reference Aircraft change process
    • Approve technical documentation
    • Analyse regulations, define certification strategy and issue Certification Programme and associated Means of Compliance, in close connection with Certification Authorities
    • Issue technical data to enable Operational and Maintenance documentation update
    • Verify ATR and Vendor Service Bulletins
  • Perform technology and regulation watch
  • Participate in Research & Innovation programs, in order to prepare the future of the company

In addition, you will be personally responsible for :

  • Developing & communicating the team’s vision & strategy, in connection with the top company objectives, and organising the team accordingly
  • Ensuring compliance of the organisation & processes with the Design Organisation Manual and DOA requirements
  • Developing team members and key competences (through training, coaching, recruitment,…)
  • Assigning people to the right project / activity, setting objectives and assessing individual & collective performance
  • Defining priorities (in accordance with business priorities), planning activities and managing risks
  • Fostering the continuous improvement of ways of working, processes and tools in order to enhance collective efficiency ; you will do this within your team as well as with interfaced teams
  • Defining, together with the Procurement team, the make-or-buy policy and the subcontracting strategy
  • Building the yearly Operating Plan, overseeing budget follow-up and steering activities in order to meet financial targets
  • Reporting towards the rest of the organisation, escalating where appropriate, cascading business information to your team and ensuring a clear & efficient communication with other ATR teams

KEY SKILLS / PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

Engineering degree.

Strong experience (> 10 years) in the Avionics domain, with

  • a deep technical knowledge
  • an experience of multi-systems architecture & integration activities
  • and an experience of major development projects

Good knowledge of other Aircraft systems & other Aircraft Design disciplines (flight physics, airframe, cabin, testing,…).

Good knowledge of Aircraft regulations, development processes and standards, qualification standards.

General knowledges of Production, Procurement and Customer Support activities within an aircraft manufacturer.

Significant experience in Project Management, with a strong culture of Schedule and Risk management.

Excellent leadership skills, including very good interpersonal skills, applying on a daily basis the key values of respect, reliability, customer focus and integrity.

You are a real team player, fostering a collaborative approach in all domains and at all levels of the organisation.

Ability to communicate with various stakeholders, in a multi-cultural environment :

  • Externally : with Authorities, Suppliers, Partners, Customers
  • Within ATR : with other Engineering departments & groups, Programme, Production, Procurement, Customer Support, Quality, Finance, Human Resources,…

French, English at least at negotiation level.
