Description:As the Additive Manufacturing (AM) Research Engineer, you will drive the adoption of innovative new tools, materials, and technologies to enable the next generation of AM focused product designs. Working closely with both Design and Manufacturing engineering teams you will support AM-focused manufacturing research projects to develop new additive manufacturing capabilities including design optimization, process development, and materials research. Key initiatives include supporting:
- Additive Materials and Process Development & Qualification
- Generative Design and Design for Additive Capabilities
- Additive Hardware Prototyping and Process Development
- Additive Supply Chain and Customer Support
- Execution & support of Internal & External Research Projects and Proposals
To achieve success, the candidate will leverage their hands-on experience with Additive manufacturing processes and materials, familiarity with typical design and materials trades, and strong communications & teaming style to support research & prototyping.
Tasking may include design, modification and analysis of complex geometries in CAD including new concept development and testing. Coordination and support of prototype hardware builds, including understanding physical and economic implications to the print. Supporting AM mfg & inspection equipment technology development, optimization, and troubleshooting, Development of research test plans and engagement with industry partners.
Basic Qualifications:
-BS in Engineering, Materials Science, or other relevant technical related field
- Experience in Additive Manufacturing industry, specifically with Laser Powder Bed systems
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated experience with process optimization tools & approaches
- Experience with AM design & Mfg tools
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desired Skills:
- Experience with Additive hardware qualification & acceptance
- Experience with Engineering design, specifically thermal heat exchanger design
- Engineering design and Manufacturing experience with metal additive (DED, L-PBF, Friction Stir Deposition)
- Experience with Design for Additive Manufacturing tools, and methodologies
- Experience in hardware manufacturing environment
- MS in Engineering, Materials Science, or other relevant technical field

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
