The Boeing Space, Intelligence & Weapon Systems (SI&WS) has an exciting opportunity for Avionics Flight Systems Responsible Engineers (Associate / Mid-Level) to join the Avionics & Software (AV&SW) Flight Systems team in Huntsville, Alabama, on the Space Launch System (SLS) program contracts.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) SLS is the one of the most powerful rockets in the world and offers unprecedented capabilities related to payload mass, volume and energy to enable deep space crewed/uncrewed exploration. SLS is designed to be flexible and evolvable and will open new opportunities for crewed deep space missions. The Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) is SLSs first evolution of design improvements to enhance those capabilities as part of the Block 1B SLS Architecture.
Position Responsibilities:
Designs electronic hardware focused on space launch vehicle applications
Develops avionics assembly designs primarily focused within the following fields:
Electrical Power Systems (EPS) – Battery design and testing; charge / discharge controls
Designs and supports execution of Li-ion battery performance and safety tests
Compares actual results/execution to baseline plan to assess project performance, efficiencies, productivity and lessons learned.
Provides technical, business and integration leadership for the development and execution of project or team plans
Develops, documents and maintains electronic and electrical system requirements according to customer desires and contract requirements
Leads and coordinates work to analyze and translate requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications.
Develops of statements-of-work and technical performance specifications
Develops of test plans/procedures and supports the execution test events
Leads Root Cause/Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations and resolutions
Executes various methods of testing and analysis to support design and production and to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements
Works with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of products
Leads formal trade studies and literature research to support future product designs
Develops solutions to technical problems
Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment.
Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects.
Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
Completed work is reviewed for desired results from a relatively long-term perspective.
Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment
This position is expected to be 100 onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
Associate Level 2: Typically 2 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications.
Mid- Level 3: Typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications.
Ability to travel up to 15
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Associate Level: 1+ years of experience with Li-ion battery design and test
Mid-Level: 3+ years of experience with Li-ion battery design and test
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related science or technology field degree
Proficient in power distribution controller design
Experience in battery electrical and mechanical systems for space vehicles
Experience with standard JSC-20793 Revision D (Crewed Space Vehicle Battery Safety Requirements)
Experience in one or more of these focused areas: analog/digital circuits, firmware/Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), serial and parallel communication protocols, radio frequency
Good communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Experience with Creo Parametric/Windchill
Ability to work in a team environment
Previous design team or special project team participation
Experience of Printed Wiring Board (PWB) design processes
Experience MIL-STD-1553, ethernet, RS-422 and other communication protocols
Experience of test equipment including signal generators, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes

Summary pay range for Associate: $ 91,800 – $ 124,200
Summary pay range for Mid-Level: $ 112,200 – $ 151,800
