STS Aviation Services is hiring a B1 Licensed Engineer in Newquay, United Kingdom. This is a permanent internal opportunity within the Commercial Maintenance team at NQY.
The B1 Licensed Engineer will report directly to the appropriate Hangar Manager and support the delivery of aircraft maintenance activity within a defined zone of work. This role requires strong technical ownership, supervisory capability and the ability to coordinate resources, manage daily work plans and ensure maintenance tasks are delivered safely, accurately and on schedule.
Position Overview
The B1 Licensed Engineer is responsible for managing an assigned zone of aircraft maintenance work, coordinating staff within that area and ensuring all activity is completed in line with agreed targets, regulatory requirements and STS Aviation Services standards.
This role includes technical oversight, staff coordination, schedule management, certification duties and support for quality, safety and budget-related activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Agree targets and milestones with the Check Manager
- Manage a defined zone of work to deliver maintenance tasks to schedule
- Utilise resources effectively to achieve schedule requirements
- Certify specific aircraft types listed on the QA044 Staff Authorisation Document
- Where a Check Manager is unavailable, and where the B1 Certifying Engineer holds Category C privilege and has not certified any document during that input, act as C Cert when requested to release specific aircraft types to service within the scope of limitations of the QA044 Staff Authorisation Document
- Coordinate all staff within the assigned work area
- Create a daily work plan to deliver the zone against the agreed schedule
- Allocate tasks and responsibilities within the assigned work area
- Monitor performance against plan
- Provide regular briefings, guidance and support to allocated staff as needed
- Work with the Check Manager and B1 or B2 Certifying Engineers to identify impending problems and generate solutions
- Provide updates to the Check Manager on issues affecting work plan targets, proposed solutions, next steps and future work allocation
- Remain accountable for the technical integrity of all work carried out under their control
- Remain accountable for the conduct and timekeeping of all allocated staff while employed within the assigned zone of responsibility
- Assist and advise the Check Manager in managing timekeeping, discipline and productivity issues
- Assist the Check Manager with individual development, including formal appraisals and advising on suitability for further training or development
- Maintain continued health and safety duty of care for the team
- Ensure all current procedures are followed
- Carry out DQS self-audits as requested by the Check Manager
- Advise and propose revisions to maintain regulatory compliance of company publications
- Assist with quality audits and support implementation of robust closure plans
- Assist the Check Manager with creation and management of budgets as required
Skills and Abilities
- Part 66 Licence B1
- Indentured apprenticeship or equivalent in aviation engineering or a similar mechanical engineering field
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a technician
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment
- Flexibility to meet changing working requirements
- Excellent organisational skills
- Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills
- Full UK driving licence required
- Knowledge of MS Office applications
