AHUK offers considerable experience in helicopter sales, bespoke completions, maintenance and spares support.  Its in-house engineering capabilities include design, customisation, installation, flight-testing and certification, as well as technical support, maintenance, training and the supply of spares for civil and military applications.

AHUK is the MoD’s chosen provider of helicopters and maintenance for its No. 1 Flying Training School (referred to as MFTS) located in RAF Shawbury (Shropshire) and RAF Valley (Anglesey).

Description/Overall purpose of the Job

AHUK Design Office is the appointed Coordinating Design Office for Airbus Helicopters Products operated by the UK Ministry of Defence. Under our DAOS approval we are responsible for coordinating all design and related safety activities with Original Equipment Manufactures and the end user.

Working within this Organisation, the successful applicant will manage all design and safety activities to meet contractual commitments made with the Customer (UK MOD).

The role involves liaison with MOD through an established management structure, reporting progress and related issues, establishing clarity of requirements and providing CDO inputs for future work. The scope of role includes configuration management, safety and service information.

Main responsibilities

  • Primary DO interface for technical queries from the Technical Support Service.

  • Overall coordination of the DO output to ensure that all DO deliverables are produced in accordance with the Project budget and schedule.

  • Control, maintain and manage the CDO management plans on behalf of the Head of Design (MAA Form 4 Holder).

  • Coordination for all DO support activities between design teams (AHUK & AH) and the technical support service function, including:

  • Safety & Airworthiness Issues.

  • -Supporting Technical & Publication queries.

  • -Configuration & Change Management.

  • -Aircraft Repair Schemes.

  • Technical coordination of modification proposal packages (AHUK or AH) and provide the Authority with impact assessments, technical proposals and statement of work.

  • Attendance at AH and Authority meetings as required.

  • Work with the Design Office Manager to continually improve the DAOS and CFAOS expositions to meet emerging requirements.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Regulatory, working knowledge of:

  • MAA DAOS and CFAOS process and practices.

  • Certification requirements (FAR/CS29, DSTAN 00-970).

  • Certification and qualification processes.

  • Technical competencies.

  • Aeronautical engineering related competencies.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for team building and effective project management.

  • Good networking skills building and developing relationships.

Education, Qualifications or Training

  • Aeronautical or equivalent Degree.

  • Equivalent experience with another professional qualification may be considered

  • Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent training.

Additional requirements 

  • Due to the nature of this position you will require DBS Security Clearance, be eligible for SC clearance and be eligible for Military Security Clearance.
