Job Description:

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Cabin Version Engineer - Early Career to join our Engineering department based in Mobile, AL.

You will join a team developing solutions to a variety of complex engineering problems, requiring resourcefulness within the Airbus A350 product line. General responsibilities include: A350 Lavatory module customization, new development support, qualification and certification, Continued Airworthiness, cabin installation definition, supplier/RSP management, etc.

Your working environment:

The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers who assist in the design and development of Airbus commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades, reconfigurations and services of all product types across the globe.

Your challenges:

Product Customization: 50

  • Provide technical and project oversight of Lavatory Module suppliers to ensure delivery of coordinated engineering solutions meeting technical, weight, program, and schedule and cost targets.
  • Create project specific results including feasibility studies, integration plans, clash investigation and resolution, and creation of production documents.
  • Analyze Customer Change Requests and Revise designs based on customer, manufacturing and/or design requirements.
  • Define Preliminary Module Design for technical coordination with other functions (stress, flam, weights, etc) and resolve technical repercussions after receiving Means of Compliance proposal documentation.
  • Define Module Design for each customer’s initial aircraft by locating/identifying existing “known” solutions within the Airbus system and/or crafting “Close to Known” versions of “known” solutions as applicable.
  • Define/Validate Interfaces to the aircraft including development of customized modules installation requirements (including validation of both structural and system interfaces). This activity includes accomplishing preliminary design review (PDR) with suppliers to verify supplier module requirements are validated against the contracted specification and to ensure equipment is consistent with all requirements.
  • Hold/accomplish a critical design review (CDR) to finalize Version Module Specification for the suppliers of Modules including acceptance of test plans as needed.
  • Validate the Customized Module Design by ensuring clash/interference free integration of the module into the aircraft by checking the 3-D model of the module against the aircraft’s 3-D model.
  • Release the Customized Module Design by crafting and/or supervising creation of module installation drawings that are then checked and released within the 3D model environment.
  • As an ongoing process of product improvement suggest modifications regarding the design and development of aircraft cabins and components.
  • Provide recommendations to the design engineering elements of the coordinated project plan to ensure it is technically robust.
  • Develop and lead program enablers and ensure their timely and high quality delivery into Airbus
  • Develop solutions to handle unique installations for which existing methods and procedures may not apply.

Technical User Documentation: 10

  • Generate Technical User Documentation such as Management Material & Technical Specifications, Standard Documents, Process Instructions, Engineering Baseline Descriptions, Technical Notes/Memos, etc.

Qualification and Certification: 20

  • Guide and perform Verification and Validation (V&V), Qualification and Certification activities including release of the Declaration of Design Performance (DDP). Typically including review and acceptance of Qualification Test Reports in collaboration with relevant Engineering Specialists such as Flammability and Mass Properties.
  • Support Continued Airworthiness activities: Investigations & Risk Analyses to In-Service Occurrences.
  • Ensure that the design can be certified and all the vital data for test and certification is produced. Support the Certification of Head of Version Aircraft.

Production and Customer Support: 10

  • Provide engineering support for production and manufacturing at Supplier’s manufacturing facility, and resolve any engineering discrepancies during installation at the Final Assembly Line (FAL)
  • Provide engineering support for end user customers’ in-service difficulties
  • Analyze Customer Change Requests (CR) based on customer, manufacturing and/or design requirements.

Represent the company/department: 10

  • Represent the Company to customers and/ or suppliers on technical matters related to the assigned project or technical specialty. Provide a clear communication link between the vendor(s) and the Airbus Engineering team.
  • Be a strong liaison with other Airbus departments internally, externally and internationally.

Your boarding pass:
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S) from a four-year college/university in Engineering, required
  • Previous intern, or other emerging talent, experience is a plus, but not required
  • Up to 15 domestic and international involved
  • Willingness and ability to actively drive the development process and meet project objectives of Safety, Schedule, and Quality
  • Ability to lead discussions with internal and external customers and vendors
  • Quickly identify when critical issue is appropriate and raise if vital
  • Ability to be self-directed and work in multi-functional teams
  • Must have strong capability in GSuite, Excel and have the ability to learn new tool sets as needed
  • Fluent in English with strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and facilitation skills

This job requires that the person does not need visa sponsorship/work authorization now or in the future.

This position is a temporary (contract) position with no specific time period but could be extended or shortened as needed. Contractors are employed by a 3rd party vendor and placed on assignment to Airbus in America.
