This role is based at our Strother Field facility, which plays a critical role in supporting GE Aerospace’s manufacturing operations. The Materials Organization at Strother Field is responsible for ensuring efficient processes across receiving, shipping, stockroom operations, material handling, parts accumulation, and configuration. The Materials Department Process Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams at Strother Field to optimize processes and drive continuous improvement.

Role Overview

The Configuration Engineer will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and improving manufacturing processes within the materials organization. This role requires a hands-on approach to teaching, coaching, and assessing workers to build their capabilities and ensure adherence to standard work practices. The ideal candidate will have a passion for continuous improvement, a strong ability to collaborate across teams, and a focus on enhancing efficiency, ensuring quality, and supporting operational goals.

Key Responsibilities1. Process Development and Optimization
  • Develop, document, and implement processes for receiving, shipping, stockroom operations, material handling, parts accumulation, and configuration.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve quality.
  • Conduct time studies, workflow analysis, and root cause analysis to address bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align materials processes with overall manufacturing operations.
2. Continuous Improvement
  • Lead initiatives to optimize existing processes and drive continuous improvement across the materials organization.
  • Utilize lean manufacturing principles to eliminate waste, improve flow, and enhance productivity.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions to achieve operational goals.
3. Training and Coaching
  • Develop and deliver training programs to build the capabilities of materials organization employees.
  • Coach and mentor team members on standard work practices, process adherence, and problem-solving techniques.
  • Conduct regular assessments to ensure compliance with established processes and identify areas for improvement.
4. Collaboration and Communication
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and engineering, to ensure seamless integration of materials processes into the overall manufacturing workflow.
  • Act as a liaison between the materials organization and other departments to address challenges and align priorities.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure shared understanding of goals, expectations, and progress.
5. Safety and Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations across all materials processes.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with materials handling and storage.
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the materials organization.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in manufacturing, materials management, or process engineering preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move materials as required.
