Unique Skills:

WHY WE NEED YOU

The Flight Sciences division is responsible for the design and development of the Gulfstream Flight Control Laws and Automated Guidance Systems. These systems are complex in nature and are designed by a highly cross-functional team of exceptional engineers in the areas of Flight Controls, Testing, and Airplane System Modeling. We are seeking candidates with broad skillsets and various levels of experience to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals&8239;and&8239;work on one of the most challenging companies in aviation, from right here&8239;at our Savannah facility. This includes interaction with auto-throttles, maneuvering, and guidance. The candidate will work in the Flight Dynamics Group and ultimately be responsible for generating the set of control laws and state machines that will control the motion of the airplane. Candidate will also generate and codify the safe operating regimes and high-level safety algorithms for the airplane from the perspective of the airplane handling qualities.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Modeling (linear and non-linear) of aerodynamics and systems
  • Design, implementation, experimentation, and optimization of fault tolerant control laws for vehicle level motion
  • Stability, safety, and reliability analysis of vehicle motion control laws&8239;
  • Interface with Systems Engineering, Flight Controls, Flight Operations, Mechanical Systems, Propulsion, and Test and Development teams
  • Author, validate, and verify requirements for control law software design

WHAT YOU'VE DONE

  • Bachelor's in Engineering or another related field or equivalent work experience focused on closed loop control of a vehicle system
  • Experience in classic, optimal, robust, and adaptive control techniques and implementation
  • Experience in one or more of the following: MIMO control of highly redundant systems, stability/robustness characterization for highly non-linear systems, flexible mode analysis in the context of motion control, autonomous vehicle controls development, fault tolerant/resilient control design
  • Expert in Matlab and Simulink
  • Experience with configuration management tools (SVN or similar)
  • Systems and controls documentation (logical flow charts, sequence diagrams, etc.)
  • Familiarity with digital signal processing and sensor fusion
  • Experience in Validation and Verification activities for software development

NICE TO HAVE

  • Deep understanding of aerodynamics and airplane systems
  • Experience with FAR Part 25 certification, ARP 4754A, and Handling Qualities Analysis (per MIL-STD-1797B or similar)
  • Vehicle simulation including analysis and modeling
  • System and state identification techniques (extended state observers)
  • Statistical estimation techniques (Kalman, extended Kalman, scented/unscented Kalman)
  • Low level implementation of digital controllers
  • Software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing of embedded systems
  • Validating computational models through experimental data analysis and system identification
  • Familiarity with DO-178C and DO-331 for software requirements, validation, and verification
  • Experience performing Hardware in the Loop testing, including unit testing (test bench) and in a lab integrated with peripheral systems and real-time simulations
  • Completion of at least one commercial vehicle program or motion control product (in robotics, automation/fabrication, machine tools) with significant ownership of system dynamics modeling, motion control algorithm design and implementation, sensor integration and calibration, or integration of motor and power electronics
