has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Friedrichshafen. At the cutting edge of reliability and safety methodologies, the RAMS department (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety) ensures that all space system products are reliable, available and safe.

RAMS Engineering is a key activity supporting all programs. It is embedded in the Chief Engineering entity. In this role, you will be involved in the full range of space system development from equipment to system of systems level.

Your tasks and responsibilities

As part of the RAMS Engineering Department, you will be carrying out RAMS activities in support of the project system teams within the various Airbus Defence & Space System business units. In particular, you will be involved in the following activities:

• Performing all required project RAMS tasks at spacecraft system level, subsystem level or equipment level (unmanned and manned spacecraft).

• Interfacing with equipment suppliers: Definition of RAMS requirements in contribution to specifications at equipment level. Following the relevant design development to check the compliance to the defined requirements.

• Performing safety assessments space station payloads and representing the project team in safety reviews with the customer.

• Performing safety assessments at different product maturity stages (safety phases I, II and III).

• Performing safety assessments for operations, remove & repair activities.

• Definition of operational controls/constraints.

• Establishing reliability, availability and maintainability analyses.

• Establishing FMECA, HSIA, fault tree analyses.

• Establishing Hazard analyses for spacecraft, equipment/instruments as well as for ground support equipment.

• Co-engineering with FDIR architects (failure detection, isolation and recovery).

• Supporting the monitoring and control of equipment or subsystems subcontractors for RAMS aspects.

• Participation in the transnational harmonization of safety and RAM software tools, methods and processes.

• Participation in proposal activities.

• Managing the allocated activities, deliveries and budgets in accordance with project and department requirements.

This role may involve travel for business within Europe to Airbus or suppliers’ premises for a short period, and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Desired skills and qualifications

• Degree in electrical, aerospace, mechanical engineering (or equivalent).

• Knowledge of Safety & RAM engineering processes, methods and tools.

• Knowledge of satellite architecture and subsystems.

• Knowledge of the international space station and its modules

• IT knowledge (MS Office, Google Suite, Doors, ...).

• Working knowledge of reliability software tools such as Reliability Workbench, Relex, ExperTool, would be an asset.

• Knowledge of relevant standards such as: MIL-HDBK-217F&43;N2, FIDES, ECSS dependability, SSP51721...

• Knowledge of specific safety processes (e.g. SSP30599).

• Good communication and presentation skills.

• Effective at working in a multi-disciplinary team.

• Able to work and coordinate in a transnational Safety & RAM organization.

• Pro-active, flexible and open minded spirit.

• German and English language skills

Aufgaben und Verantwortlichkeiten

• Durchführung aller erforderlichen Projekt-RAMS-Aufgaben auf der Satellitensystem-, der Nutzlast/Plattform oder der Equipment-Ebene (unbemannte und bemannte Raumfahrt)

• Zusammenarbeit mit Lieferanten von Satelliten-Equipment: Definition von RAMS-Anforderungen als Beitrag zu Spezifikationen auf Equipment-Ebene. Verfolgung der relevanten Designentwicklung, um die Einhaltung der definierten Anforderungen zu überprüfen.

• Durchführung von Sicherheitsbewertungen für die Nutzlasten der Raumstation und Vertretung des Projektteams bei Sicherheitsüberprüfungen mit dem Kunden.

• Durchführung von Sicherheitsbewertungen in den verschiedenen Produktreifegraden (Sicherheitsbewertungen der Phasen I, II und III)

• Durchführung von Sicherheitsbewertungen für den Betrieb sowie Entfernungs- und Reparaturaktivitäten

• Definition von Betriebskontrollen/-einschränkungen

• Durchführung von Zuverlässigkeits-, Verfügbarkeits- und Wartbarkeitsanalysen

• Durchführung von FMECA, HSIA, Fehlerbaumanalysen

• Gefahrenanalysen für Satelliten, Equipments/Instrumente sowie für bodengestützte Equipments

• Unterstützung bei der Überwachung und Kontrolle von Unterauftragnehmern für Equipments oder Teilsysteme im Hinblick auf RAMS-Aspekte

• Mitwirkung an der länderübergreifenden Harmonisierung von Sicherheits- und RAM-Software-Tools, -Methoden und -Prozessen

• Verwaltung der zugewiesenen Aktivitäten, Lieferungen und Budgets in Übereinstimmung mit den Projekt- und Abteilungsanforderungen

Erforderliche Kenntnisse und Qualifikationen

• Hochschulabschluss in Elektrotechnik, Luft- und Raumfahrttechnik, Maschinenbau oder gleichwertig

• Kenntnisse der Prozesse, Methoden und Werkzeuge des Safety & RAM Engineering

• Kenntnisse der Satellitenarchitektur und der Subsysteme

• Kenntnisse über die internationale Raumstation und ihre Module
