Development Engineer for PEM Fuel Cell Ionomer and Membrane (d/f/m)

Job Description:

The position is within Aerostack GmbH, a Joint Venture between Airbus and an automotive company, part of the Airbus strategy to accelerate Zero Emission Aircraft development and build competences and skills in the technology domain.

In order to support the R&D Team Team in Taufkirchen near Munich, a vacancy for a “Development Engineer for PEM Fuel Cell Ionomer and Membrane (d/f/m)” has arisen at Aerostack GmbH.

The job holder reports operationally and functionally to the Head of R&D.

Main Tasks and Accountabilities:

• Deducting membrane requirements from stack requirements and operating strategy

• Definition of membrane and ionomer specification

• Technical focal point for suppliers in collaboration with procurement

• Guiding industrial and institutional research

• Design and manufacturing of catalyst coated membranes in cooperation with CCM research team

• Definition of in-situ and ex-situ testing protocols

• Guidance of in-situ and ex-situ membrane tests and results interpretation

• Development of accelerated stress test protocols

• Support modelling team with ionomer data and specification

• Definition of membrane and ionomer specification

• Definition of membrane for stack generations

• Development of catalyst layers in cooperation with CCM team

Required Skills

As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate some of the following competences & skills:

• Master degree in chemistry, polymer chemistry, process engineering or similar

• Knowledge of PEM fuel cell technology are a benefit

• Knowledge in degradation and failure mechanism of fuel cell ionomers and membranes

• Experience in working in a laboratory environment including safety concepts

• Experience in manufacturing of fuel cell components

• Experience in in-situ and ex-situ characterization of fuel cells and components

• Pragmatic mindset and ambition in simplicity

• English fluently, German & French are a benefit
