Job Summary


Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a Summer Electrical Engineer Intern in our Goleta, CA facility to support the design, fabrication and modification of electrical and/or electro-mechanical components, sub-systems and systems.  Position will be working on various projects that may include skills with Electrical Analysis, Circuit Design, Vehicle Electrical Integration, Electrical Packaging or others.  They will assists in the evaluation of the design approach to meet production requirements for new or improved products or services.  The position will investigate solutions to product or process problems.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate good judgment combined with technical expertise and will possess an ability to communicate effectively to team members from different disciplines.  The purpose of the internship is to provide meaningful professional hands-on experience to students with proven academic performance and leadership potential.  Students will also get to utilize our companies flexible work schedule. 


Job Responsibilities



  • Support and participate in technical electrical engineering activities

  • Responsible for completion of assigned task on time and meeting technical requirements

  • Work closely with an engineering team to conceptualize systems and electrical designs

  • Perform both system-level and component-level design and integration tasks involving electrical and electro-mechanical component-level tasks which include determining block diagrams, detailed design, simulation, debug & test

  • Perform the design, development, modification, analysis, and documentation of various electrical systems

  • Develop custom fixtures for test, evaluation and manufacturing of electrical equipment

  • Provide progress status for electrical design assignments periodically

  • Participate in resolution of technical issues within the company and outside suppliers

  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customers as required

  • Gather and assemble data for engineers

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision from others

  • May be required to help in research in a particular field

  • Must have good interpersonal skills and have the ability to build a good network

  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization


Job Requirements:
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED, and working on a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field
  • Experience with using modeling software such as schematic capture and PC layout tools
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, written and verbal
  • Must be diligent, hardworking, and quick to learn

Desired Knowledge:

  • Experience with reading and understanding electrical drawings
  • Experience with electrical CAD / schematic capture tools
  • Experience with conducting root-cause failure analyses
  • Experience developing custom fixtures for test, evaluation and manufacturing of electrical equipment
  • Experience with either system-level or component-level design and test on electrical systems
  • Experience with specifying and evaluating supplier components, subsystems and services

The pay scale for this position is $20.00/hour - $31.00/hour. The pay scale information is a general guideline only. Several factors can influence the pay scale for a position including but not limited to, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate’s qualifications such as relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications.
