The Boeing Company is seeking an experienced, highly skilled professional to become a member of the AvionX Engineering team serving as an Electrical Hardware Design Engineer - Digital and Analog Circuits and Power Supply Design in Huntsville, Alabama.

We are seeking several Lead or Subject Matter Expert Engineers who will work with a multi-skilled, multi-disciplined team of engineers in the execution of complex technical hardware and firmware development of avionics products in accordance with both commercial and defense customer requirements, business objectives, and Boeing processes. The role will provide detailed technical design execution to ensure program technical, schedule and cost constraints are met.

The Huntsville AvionX Power and Embedded Controls Team develops Electronic Designs, build, test and deliver Electronic/Electrical products and provide Engineering solutions for a variety of the companys government and commercial programs across the world, including commercial and government avionics, space exploration, and multiple military programs. The team is responsible for Electrical / Electronic Hardware, Test Equipment, Avionics, Smart Battery System and Wire Harness Design.

Position Responsibilities

  • Electronics Design and Analysis at the Circuit Card and Unit level to achieve the goals and satisfy the requirements of our military (DoD), manned space (NASA) customers and commercial (Boeing Commercial Aircraft)
  • Service and Support the entire life cycle from requirements derivation through design/development and test up to and beyond manufacture and delivery of hardware
  • Perform Schematics capture, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design and layout with Mentor Graphics or other PCB design software
  • Perform PCB hardware design using micro controller units and FPGA devices
  • Execute PCB design and PCB assembly verification, debug, troubleshooting and repair
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM) utilization at PCB design and layout
  • Provides technical depth and ensure common practices are in place across programs and product lines within AvionX
  • Interfaces with other AvionX engineers, project engineers, project leads and program management to execute program goals, objectives, projects and initiatives
  • Provides cross-functional technical execution, communication, process adherence, and process improvements
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuit design and power supplies
  • Analyzes and translates requirements into box architecture and hardware designs
  • Tests and validates to ensure hardware designs meet operational and functional requirements
  • Programming experience in C/C++, C, Java, Visual Basic
  • Simulation experience and creation of behavioral models with software, MATLAB, SPICE and or Linux
  • Custom electronic design of functional test hardware
  • Custom electrical design of interface units for automatic test equipment
  • Experience with and knowledge of lab measurement instruments
  • Knowledge of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) manufacturing processes
  • Electronics manufacturing process layout design
  • Knowledge of electronic/electrical systems and components including the requirements, operating principles, design variables, performance, and key interfaces

Note: Some domestic and international travel may be required. Candidate must be able to travel domestically up to 10 of their time.

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 14+ years’ experience with software or hardware engineering, requirements, design, development, test, and working with software and hardware

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 20+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 14+ years’ experience with the design and technical development of hardware, firmware or software for Military, Space, or Commercial airplane systems
  • Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate degree in an engineering field (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Software)
  • Active US Security Clearance
  • Experience leading teams or projects formally or informally
  • Experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design
  • Experience with detailed modeling and analysis of designed circuits
  • Experience with engineering processes and tools required to complete requirements development, hardware integration, verification, certification, leading into production and support services
  • Experience with new technology or product/capability development
  • Experience communicating with senior managers and executives, customers (internal and external), business partners / suppliers / subcontractors, and government representatives
  • Experience engaging collaboratively with management, technical fellows, teammates, suppliers, and customers while upholding high quality and safety standards
  • Experience with DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160, and ARP-4754 hardware and software development tools, processes and standards
  • Experience with military/DoD, IPC, IEEE, and other industry design standards
  • Expertise with electrical/electronic hardware design
  • Experience with Analog, digital circuit and power supply design
  • Experience with Lab View programming
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM), including developing Quantifiable Backup Data (QBD) and Control Account Management (CAM)

Typical Education/Experience: 

Lead (Level 5):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years related work experience, Master+12 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Subject Matter Expert (Level 6):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years related work experience, Master+18 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

Summary pay range Lead Level: $143,650 - $194,350

Summary pay range Subject Matter Expert Level: $170,000 - $230,000
