Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an Electromagnetic Engineer Lead Level 3 or 4 to support the development and ongoing support of world-class US Navy machinery (turbines, generators, motors, and other system components based out of Sunnyvale, CA. In this role, you will play a critical part in the development and management of turbine generators (EMFEA Analysis, design schematics of a generator, acing as a liaison for contractors), and mitigation strategies. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a passion for improving machinery quality and customer satisfaction. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to diagnose, analyze, and mitigate NVH issues, ensuring our machinery meet the most challenging standards.

What You’ll get to Do:

  • Lead electromagnetic design integration for turbine-generator system.

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact with suppliers for electromagnetic topics.

  • Review and validate supplier electromagnetic deliverables including: EMFEA models, Design parameters, and Equivalent circuit parameters.

  • Ensure supplier outputs are useable for downstream system analysis.

This requisition may be filled at an Electromagnetic Engineer Lead Level 3 or an Electromagnetic Engineer Lead Level 4 based on the qualifications listed below: 

Basic Qualifications for Electromagnetic Engineer Lead Level 3:

  • Bachelors Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 5 years relevant work experience; or Master’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 3 years of relevant work experience.

  • Understanding of turbine-generator systems and rotating machinery.

  • Strong foundation in electromagnetic theory.

  • Experience receiving information from external vendors and effectively communicating information to internal teams.

  • Proficiency with EMFEA tools such as Ansys Maxwell and Altair Flux2D.

  • Must be a US citizen.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Electromagnetic Engineer Lead Level 4:

  • Bachelors Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 8 years relevant work experience; or Master’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 6 years of relevant work experience.

  • Understanding of turbine-generator systems and rotating machinery.

  • Strong foundation in electromagnetic theory.

  • Experience receiving information from external vendors and effectively communicating information to internal teams.

  • Proficiency with EMFEA tools such as Ansys Maxwell and Altair Flux2D.

  • Must be a US citizen.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to connect EM behavior to: Structural dynamics and vibration, Acoustics performance, and Thermal considerations.

  • Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience working with external vendor or suppliers.

  • Critically review external analysis and models.

  • Bridge gaps between supplier output and internal needs.

  • Lead experience with technical discussions and discrepancy resolution.

  • Ability to operate in fast-paced and multi-tasking environments.

  • Effective collaborator across internal and external suppliers.

  • Power electronics experience.

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
