Job Description SummaryEdison Works, the military business unit of GE Aerospace, is on the front line of developing advanced technology to support our nation’s defense. The Next Generation Products team is responsible for all future advanced military New Product Introduction (NPI) programs developing from GE Aerospace’s investments in science and technology. This role is a Systems Integration Engineering role for a significant NPI program, specifically focused on developing a strategy for implementation of condition-based-maintenance on future military propulsion products.

Systems integration engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the user’s needs. System Engineers execute a robust process of design, responsible for creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed.

The Senior Staff – Sustainment Technologies Engineer is accountable for developing and executing technologies to support Logistics and sustainment strategy during the NPI phase for Next Gen programs, and ensure technologies are matured by Initial service release (ISR). In this role, you will collaborate with a large cross-functional team including Design Engineering, Technologists, Logistics and Sustainment, and our external stakeholders to meet Logistics needs for the future. Building Innovative tools to aid the maintainers and increase the capabilities at the flight line and at the depot and working closely with Condition Based Maintenance (CBM+) team to support acceleration of models maturation. These technology suits include but not limited to AI assisted inspection technologies, robotics, and advanced repair technologies.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manage scope, schedules, coordination, and execution of sustainment technologies and integration for advanced programs to meet customer requirements.
  • Deliver Earned Value Management (EVM) scope on workscope, including cost and schedule statusing and variance reporting.
  • Coordinate with customer to define, update, and interpret technical requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions, and support the Logistics and Sustainment (L& S) team in building a CBM+ implementation plan.
  • Define plans, working with design and supporting orgs, to show compliance to technical requirements.
  • Lead cross functional teams and provide key technical direction in the execution of programs to meet customer requirements.
  • Assure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources, and responsiveness to customer / program needs.
  • Support request for proposals and request for information from external customers.
  • Drive maturation plan for sustainment technologies including rigs and engine tests
  • Advance new technologies for engine maintenance and repairs and collaborate with GE-Global research and Commercials services team in developing innovative technologies.
  • Develop and execute strategy for integrating sustainment technologies to the field.
  • Identify potential risks and develop and implement strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Lead Sustainment Technologies Design reviews and coordinate Systems Tech forums to share technical progress and milestones.
  • Shape and contribute to technical solutions that align next generation warfighter needs with applicable technology development roadmaps.
  • Develop standard work, operating metrics, and supporting analyses to drive execution and corrective actions.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis and presentation of data to internal and external GE customers.
  • Define and propose future development efforts.
  • Assist in developing new business opportunities by leading and contributing to proposal efforts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering from accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering and/or technical program management role.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security Clearance at the Secret level or higher.
  • Due to security requirements, this position must be able to work a full-time in the office schedule.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Experience with engine/aircraft integration, engine component/systems design, engine performance, engine controls, and vehicle power/thermal systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceive and promote new possibilities and drive teams to deliver.
  • Experience with engine maintenance, inspection, analytics, and product support.
  • Experience working with DoD customer and processes. 
  • Experience managing DoD EVM projects.
  • Active DoD Security Clearance at the Secret level or higher.
  • Strong track record of ability to work in a team environment with demonstrated leadership and customer interface skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by influence.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
