Engineer II, Quality Assurance Inspector

POSITION SUMMARY:
Plans, evaluates and monitors activities to develop, apply and maintain quality systems for industrial processes, materials, specifications, products, policies and procedures. Evaluate, monitor, develop and implement standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation of processes and products to meet engineering and customer requirements. Investigate, recommend and implement continuous improvements to company operations.
Perform data analysis, investigate nonconformance root cause, perform stock sweep, identify any corrective actions required, and lead problem-solving initiatives.
Lead enforcement initiatives of all Piper Aircraft requirements to include, Process Specifications, Quality Procedures, Quality Instructions, and Standard Manufacturing Procedures.
Experience defining customer requirements, product design and development, process design and development, product and process validation, and feedback and corrective action. (PPAP)
Experience leading the preparation and submittal of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and/or 5-Phase engineering documentation.
Initiate, follow up, and record corrective actions in company database.
Support the Quality Inspectors and Manufacturing to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the Quality Management System and Engineering Type Design.
Analyze failures promptly to respond to customer complaints (external/internal).
Demonstrate excellent written & oral communication skill. Participate in meetings to represent Quality Department objectives.
Identify quality system process gaps and develop or modify procedures or requirements to close those gaps.
Exhibit objectivity and openness to others views. Give and welcome feedback.
Interface with Customers, Engineering, and Operations to ensure production of products are in accordance with approved data.
Evaluate Customer requirements, Piper Process Specifications (PPS), engineering drawings, and other acceptance criteria to verify quality characteristics or functions.
Work autonomously to complete any activities related to supplier quality approval processes as requested for new customers.
Assist in the product realization process from contract review to part conformity inspection planning and execution
Conduct audits of product or process, including closing out audit findings, creating audit finding reports and determine proper corrective and preventive actions.
Work with other engineering groups as necessary (manufacturing, industrial, and process engineers) in order to implement corrective actions as necessary to prevent quality escapes and improve manufacturability parts and assemblies.
Monitor Non-Conforming Material Reports for trends and implement corrective actions as necessary in order to decrease non-conforming articles.
Assist in Quality System Audits as necessary to support Customer, FAA and AS9100 regulatory oversight. o.
Develop inspection plans to support First Article Inspection, Receiving Inspection, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis that align design inputs with inspection capabilities.
Review and approve new development drawings for inspection purposes and develop ballooned characteristic drawings accordingly.
Provide feedback on design for manufacturability.
Use geometry, math and formulas to calculate dimensions, angles and to help resolve issues.
Will be required to perform conformity and First Article Inspections (FAI) inspections
Maintain all necessary records, files and reports
Perform complex inspections on parts and assemblies using advanced measuring systems such as FARO arm and laser tracking
Able to generate complex and detailed reports to support continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
Other duties as assigned by Quality Management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors’ degree in engineering preferred with two years of experience working in a manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possess experience and a working knowledge of metal fabrication and machining as well as associated inspection methods.
Requires comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes, AS9100 quality system requirements, and FAA regulatory requirements.
Must be eligible to receive ITAR training and certification.
Must have working knowledge of Windows based computer programs.
Familiarity with ballooning software such as DISCUS, InspectionXpert, and High QA.
Experience with FAIR submission platforms such as Net-Inspect preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
The employee must possess the ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers in both written and oral form.
