The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conceptual or theoretical activities relating to the science focused on the relations between heat and mechanical energy or work, and the conversion of one into the other: modern thermodynamics deals with the properties of systems for the description of which temperature is a necessary coordinate.Includes Heat transfer that is the science on the exchange of thermal energy between physical systems, depending on the temperature and pressure, by dissipating heat.
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
  • Lead experimental test evaluation efforts measuring aerodynamic and thermal performance supporting critical engine components
  • Advanced Measurements - Development and application of advanced aerodynamic and thermal experimental measurement techniques
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned individual and team projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and / or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in engineering from an accredited university or college with 3+ years direct work experience in lab setting studying relevant technology OR PhD or Masters degree & work experience acceptable in lieu of full 3 years
  • Participation in engineering tests in an academic or company environment
  • Familiarity with CAD/Solid modeling of mechanical components
  • Familiarity with fundamentals of aerodynamics and heat transfer
  • Experience with data reduction and analysis via Excel, Matlab, or similar
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted.

  • Graduate degree or desire to pursue graduate degree in Engineering
  • Fluency in the English Language

  • Ability to influence others and lead small teams
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance
