The goal for the GTFA program is to reduce fuel burn & system temperatures while increasing intervals for engine removal, time on wing, part durability and hardware life for life limited parts.  As such, PSA is a primary contributor to the success of the program and requires an individual with strong technical, problem solving, communication, and leadership skills as the GTFA program matures through customer compliance / aircraft certification and entry-into-service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct system trade studies to optimize the engine thermodynamic cycle for performance, durability, time on wing, operability, and other system metrics.
  • Provide detailed analysis of engine ground and flight test data to help characterize component & system level performance.
  • Ensure operability goals for transient engine response, engine starting, rotor overspeed behavior during system failure events, and capability under inclement weather conditions.
  • Contribute, maintain, and update the engine aero-thermo model (NPSS/C++) and other home-grown PSA tools (Python) and review and support internal and external conventional model releases (Git).
  • Identify & drive strategic transformation of tools and processes by automating existing workflows.
  • Support data analytics initiatives utilizing field data sources and big data tools.
  • Support, contribute, and lead relevant meetings with integration teams (IPT, SSIPT, EDSIT, & SIPT), internal/external customers, and senior leadership.
  • Owns tasks and projects that span PSA subdisciplines: “soup to nuts” ownership of outcome and work across system analysis subdiscipline boundaries to achieve program deliverables.

  • 2 years of engineering experience, or an Advanced Degree and 3 years’ experience.
  • U.S. Citizen - U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract..

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Knowledge of one or more PSA discipline(s): engine performance / operability / modeling / production & field support
  • Proficiency in NPSS and/or aero-thermo modeling for gas turbine cycles
  • Proficiency in programming codes (C++, Python) and knowledge CI/CD software development
  • Knowledge of control logic and control schedules generation
  • Knowledge of component aerodynamics, air systems, heat transfer & secondary flow, or other PSA or Aero Thermal Fluid disciplines
