Engineering Co-Op
Shift: Flexible part-time schedule, minimum 20–30 hours per week during standard office hours. Work schedule is designed to accommodate academic commitments.
Pay Range: $23.00-26.00+
PURPOSE:
The Engineering Co-Op is an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world aerospace manufacturing challenges. At PCC Carson City, you’ll gain hands-on experience in process design, quality, and continuous improvement while supporting production of precision castings used in aircraft engines and critical industrial applications. This role offers meaningful projects, mentoring from experienced engineers, and a pathway to explore future careers in engineering within a global leader in advanced manufacturing.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Engineering Projects & Process Support
- Apply principles learned in school to hands-on projects in process and product design.
- Support process improvements, cost-reduction initiatives, and efficiency projects across departments.
- Conduct analysis, testing, and documentation of existing processes and recommend improvements.
Collaboration & Learning
- Work directly with engineers, supervisors, and cross-functional teams on new product development, line extensions, and product enhancements.
- Participate in training sessions, symposiums, and educational opportunities offered by PCC.
- Take ownership of assigned projects and contribute to team deliverables in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Assist with systems analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective action implementation.
- Help identify process improvements to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Support projects focused on reliability, productivity, and quality improvement.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
- This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Actively enrolled in an accredited engineering program (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Metallurgical/Materials Engineering strongly preferred).
- Sophomore, Junior, or Senior academic standing.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to apply academic knowledge to practical manufacturing challenges.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Initiative-taking, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects with competing deadlines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, stand, and perform computer or lab work for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds as needed.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, and moving equipment.
