This position is responsible for leading and managing the CTO Materials Engineering laboratories and materials design & application teams at South Bend, Indiana and Greer, South Carolina.  The leader will also collaborate with Materials Engineering management counterparts at other Honeywell sites to provide cross-site support as needed.  The leader will perform functional management responsibilities including staffing and performance management, employee skill and career development, employee motivation, salary planning, work prioritization and technical oversight of employee work product.  Additionally, this position will provide short and long-range planning for site materials engineering design, test and special process activities in support of product design & development and production of existing products.  Design and test disciplines will cover metallurgical, carbon-carbon, coatings and non-metallic materials.  The leader will assure that activities within defined scope are accomplished in accordance with applicable regulations and requirements.

U.S. PERSON REQUIREMENTS

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization

Must Have:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Chemistry or other technical discipline
  • 10+ years in technology
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a materials test laboratory function or in materials design & applications
  • Greer site: develop and apply thermal coding technologies for jet engine turbon blades - optimization of coding chemistry & application of codings onto the turbon blades
  • Southbend- looking to further develop tomography capabilities - 2 Computed tomography scanners at the site - want to be able to provide pan-aero support - develop the lab to be a CT scanning resource for customers for outside of Honeywell - generate as a revenue generator for external customers

 

 

Nice to Have:

  • Some familiarity with special processes (e.g., casting, chemical processing, welding, etc.)
  • Experience in the aerospace industry
  • Some demonstrated leadership experience in coordinating and leading entry-level to senior-level professionals
  • Track record of leading teams to successful project delivery
  • Competence to convey complex or subtle messages clearly and concisely, as appropriate for the topic and audience
  • Ability to consistently make timely decisions and balance systematic analysis with decisiveness, even in the face of complexity
  • Self-motivated and able to work with little supervision
