QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Associate’s degree or Technical Degree in one of the following fields Mechanical Engineer or Metallurgical Engineer or related field. Minimum of 2 years’ experience will be considered in lieu of education requirement.
EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in a foundry or industrial manufacturing environment with heat treating processes.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Works with teams to perform a variety of technical assignments in maintaining production/processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most cost-efficient manner. The individual in this job will also collect, process, and analyze data for the Chief Metallurgist. Must be a self-starter who is able to work independently with a minimal amount of supervision. This person must be very detailed. Investigates and resolves work-in-process problems, review standard/general and special processes for improvement and compliance. Use problem solving tools, such as a fishbone diagram or the 5 Why’s. Recommends and implements improvements and/or modifications in sequence of operations, and related matters. Monitors assigned operations to ensure compliance with approved methods and quality standards. This position requires the individual to be able to manage multiple tasks with jobs that are ongoing and constantly changing. This individual must be able to work with and communicate with all levels of personnel within the company. Required to pass a vision test, including a color blindness test
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Will complete, track, and maintain heat treat records according to the specific standards.
- Knowledge of set-up, operating, and monitoring industrial furnaces, ovens, and quenching equipment.
- Review reports filed; Approve every heat treat record and report any non-compliance to the Chief Metallurgist
- Monitor temperatures, timing, and cooling rates (quenching) to meet customer specifications.
- Use measuring tools like micrometers or Rockwell hardness testers to inspect parts after treatment.
- Record heat-treatment times and temperatures in the proper database.
- File electronic records in the appropriate heat-treatment network directory.
- Automate test bar organization racking.
- Prepare tensile bar testing and DT’s for Metallurgist final review.
- Monitor capacity for each oven on run time.
- Polish specimens, macros, and micros and prepare for Metallurgist final review.
- Ensure routine preventative maintenance on furnaces is completed through the maintenance department, including cleaning and replacement of parts.
- Assist with fixtures when applicable.
- Assist with required surveys and flat checks.
- Monitor and update work instructions regularly and as needed.
- Monitor and troubleshoot aging and solution cycles times and temperatures.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and machine-specific software
- Ability to switch tasks throughout the day
- Ability to understand and apply written work instructions
