Job Description:

This position assists in the performance of calibration of electronic and physical/dimensional measuring and test equipment to technical specifications, maintaining traceability to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The Engineering Technician IV performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisors as needed, performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.

Key Responsibilities:

ENGR TECH IV performs one or a combination of typical duties, such as:

  • Constructing components, sub-units, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.
  • Follows specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and equipment.
  • Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data.
  • Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.
  • Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications; and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.
Job Requirements:
  • High School diploma (or equivalent) and 2 years of industry trade school or civilian college in electronics is required.

  • Completion of an appropriate military “A" school and completion of at least one appropriate military “B" or "C" school may be substituted for the two-year requirement.

  • A minimum of 3 years of current, relevant experience in Calibration.

Other Requirements:

  • An active DoD Secret clearance will be required.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data system.
  • Ability to visually inspect, count, segregate, and store incoming calibration standards and equipment.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs., unaided. Employee must be able to move equipment from incoming carts to workstations.
  • Able to stand for a period of time when working on equipment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with USN Surface or Subsurface systems
  • Experience with ISO9001:2008 or equivalent, Quality Management Systems (preferred)

Skills & Technology Used:

  • Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving:
    • Possesses both analytical and interpersonal skills.
    • Good problem solving, negotiation and organizational skills/techniques.
    • Working knowledge with Government Calibration Information Systems.
    • To be able to perform Technical Troubleshooting, Technical Research, Professional Training and Packaging and unpacking electrical components.
  • Business Partner/Effective Communicator:
    • English language skills to communicate and negotiate with government personnel.
    • Strong communicator must be able to communicate clearly both in writing and orally.
    • Customer service oriented, detail focused, pro-active behavior, multi-task capability.
  • Software:
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Excel
    • Outlook
    • SharePoint
    • Personal computer, printer, copy machine and other general office equipment.
