Job Description SummaryResponsible for all aspects of accounting for GE Aerospace’s development, manufacturing and sale of commercial aircraft and aeroderivative engines executed within the Commercial Engines & Services (CES) segment of GE Aerospace. Key responsibilities include driving technical accounting compliance, financial and operational internal controls, accounting process simplification, and operational controllership excellence to deliver accurate financial reporting and analysis. Must be able to interpret internal and external business challenges and recommend best decisions and practices to improve accounting and financial reporting processes. The Commercial Engines and Supply Chain Controller will also have functional responsibility for the GE Aerospace Engineering division.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for interpreting and setting policy to maintain compliance with US GAAP, GE Aerospace accounting policy and GE Aerospace Standard Operating Procedures; provides technical support to the finance and operations community; assists the sales and commercial teams with contractual support; drives accounting compliance with the operations teams. Responsible for the application of accounting standards and local statutory standards.
  • Advises business leaders regarding complex financial accounting and reporting issues and transaction structuring, including purchase accounting and M&A activity.  
  • Leads the businesses work to ensure integrity of financial reporting data via implementation and execution of controls in complying with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (particularly sections 302 and 404)
  • Develops and maintains accounting, financial reporting, financial control, and information systems to ensure adequate records, appropriate authorizations of transactions, and safeguard assets.
  • Set priorities for the Commercial Engines and Supply Chain Controllership team and ensure execution against those priorities through the application of Lean principles.
  • Key contact for regulatory and external auditors
  • Responsible for leading a team of professional direct reports with ability to attract, retain, grow and develop the future controllership talent of GE Aerospace and coach broader GE Aerospace Finance professionals on controllership and compliance skills. Manages medium to large teams, developing expertise within the function. Growing reputation within the organization. Includes roles that are experts in their discipline, providing professional or thought leadership. Influences policy and ensures delivery within own function, linking with other functions of the organization.
  • Form close relationships with key stakeholders in GE Aerospace Finance, Product Line operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Commercial, Legal and Risk teams.
  • Leads functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Presents business solutions to leaders in functional area. Communicates complex messages and negotiates mainly internally with others to adopt a different point of view. Influences peers to take action.
  • Leads others to find creative solutions to address complex problems that may impact the organization. Has the ability to evaluate quality of information received and questions conflicting data for analysis. Uses multiple internal and external resources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • At least 12 years of experience in an accounting or finance position
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects
  • Proven analytical and organizational ability
  • Proven capability to document, plan, market and execute several projects simultaneously
  • Proven ability to deliver results on-time
  • Ability to influence and drive results in a matrixed organization 
  • Ability to anticipate, communicate, report and resolve complex issues
  • Ability to work non-standard business hours as required to support business needs
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional style, including both oral and written communication

Desired Characteristics

  • Big 4 audit firm experience is preferred
  • Aerospace industry experience and knowledge of business operations
  • Experience in auditing, driving efficiencies and implementing controls in financial processes
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve complex financial issues
  • Detail-oriented and strong time management skills
  • Flexible approach with a strong team spirit
  • Comfortable to execute through uncertainty
