The Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), Space Mission System Division is seeking a Network Engineer (Experienced, Level 3) or (Senior or Lead, Level 4) to join our team in Herndon, VA. We create the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.


The Network Engineer will support a proprietary program in the Northern Virginia area. This program is dynamic and exciting, providing the opportunity to work within and learn a broad range of engineering disciplines. This role will focus on translating customer needs into detailed requirements for system integrated design including network system/data architecture, facility design, network hardware selection, network software selection/development, system integration, testing and operations/maintenance. As the Experienced/Lead Network Engineer, you will work in a dynamic team environment and collaborate with several types of engineering disciplines to execute tasks on-quality and on-time.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads the identification, analysis and documentation of requirements for both classified and unclassified network transport technologies and services (e.g., voice, video, data) based on customer goals, objectives, cost and security constraints

  • Leads and organizes the creation and documentation of designs that conform to architectural and security standards, to meet customer requirements, using industry best practices and tools

  • Prepares and deploys complex network implementation packages per Boeing standards

  • Leads the performance of complex preventative, proactive and reactive network maintenance in order to meet service restoration and network availability objectives, using network analysis and monitoring tools

  • Researches, develops, documents and deploys emerging network technologies and techniques, determining proper integration into existing systems to meet customer needs, as directed

  • Leads and coordinates implementation planning for multi-technology insertion projects, using established project management methodologies for the purpose of controlling costs and ensuring adherence to project plan

This position is expected to be 100 onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires an active TS/SCI U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.). This position is contingent on clearance verification and customer concurrence.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or related field or equivalent experience

  • Must have a currently active Top Secret / Top Secret SCI US Security Clearance, or have completed a Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government within the past 5 years

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Cisco routers and switches & Cisco IOS implementations

  • Security+ Certified (or similar certification meeting DoD Directive 8570.01 Certification Requirements)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Currently hold any of the following certifications: CCNA, CCNP, CISSP

  • Experience writing scripts to collect network device status and to perform software upgrades

  • 1+ years of experience with creating and presenting both written and verbal communication and presentations

  • Experience with Leadership and Project Management skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Tools including Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, MS Project

  • 1+ years of experience with Communications Security (COMSEC) encryption devices

  • 3+ years of experience leading network security infrastructure (Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Access Control Lists) Projects

Typical Education & Experience:

(Experienced, Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years related work experience, 9 years related work experience, etc.).

(Senior or Lead, Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years related work experience, Master+7 years related work experience, 13 years related work experience, etc.).

Summary Pay Range (Experienced, Level 3):  $98,600 - $133,400

Summary Pay Range (Senior or Lead, Level 4):  $121,550 - $164,450
