Job Description:

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Fatigue & Damage Tolerance Engineer to join our Repair Solutions department based in Wichita, Kansas.

Job Summary: 

This position supports the airline in-service fleet on repairs of aircraft structure and is responsible for quality justifications from a fatigue and damage tolerance point of view in a timely manner. Duties include performing complex F&DT analysis for metallic parts while working in close collaboration with design and static stress colleagues to provide repair solutions. Methods include the use of both classical hand calculations and computer techniques to develop efficient repair solutions to satisfy airworthiness requirements and customers (Airlines/MROs).

Your working environment:

Located on the Wichita State University (WSU) innovation campus is Airbus’ first dedicated engineering facility outside of Europe.

Your challenges:
  • Create high quality integrated and certified engineering repair solutions for the airlines and internal customers within given time scales.

  • Perform stress/strength analyses to assess that structural integrity requirements have been met using standard hand and computer methods. Assignments include structural sizing/documentation and subsequent certification documents for in-service fleet support.

  • Position requires in-depth knowledge of classical and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis methods.

  • Provide mentorship for less experienced structural analysts.

  • Accept broad objectives with agreed deadlines, but establish the tasks required and how they should be completed.

  • Capable of working independently.

  • Ensure application of best practices and identify the need for enhanced processes, methods, and tools.

  • Apply tool sets at a high level.

  • Technical signature authority in assigned discipline if appropriate.

  • Analyze and Validate metallic structures for static & fatigue strength according to validated methods.

  • Ensure adherence to regulations, relevant design principles, processes, methods and manufacturing capabilities guidelines.

  • Define, interpret and validate tests.

  • Interface and communicate with relevant stakeholders.

  • Provide relevant input to design for the creation of drawings for manufacture and support to other functions (i.e. production, customer support) as needed.

  • Provide stress analysis for the repair/acceptance of damaged structures.

  • Perform monitoring/guidance/support of Sub-contracting firms providing structure analysis work to Airbus.

Your boarding pass:
  • A Master&39;s Degree with emphasis on fracture mechanics is a plus.

  • 6 years total analysis experience in airframe design programs. At least 3 years of experience in F&DT or a master&39;s degree with emphasis on fracture mechanics.

  • MRO/Fleet Engineering experience is preferred.

  • Experience in airframe design, stress analysis, composites, MRB, FAR/JAR/CS/Part 21,

  • Certification, CATIA, NASTRAN, PATRAN and HYPERWORKS is desired.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint) required.

  • Proficiency with G-Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) a plus.

  • Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment both independently and collectively.

  • Position requires knowledge of classical and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis methods.

  • Team player demonstrating a positive & collaborative attitude.

  • Good interpersonal skills, flexibility and adaptability.

  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence effectively.

  • Dependable, self-motivated and accessible.

  • Working knowledge of all Airbus Structures preferred.

  • Knowledge of Airbus stress/fatigue manuals and tools preferred.

  • Demonstrated problem solving ability.

  • Must be able to communication effectively in English (verbal and written)

  • Conversational in French and/or German is a plus, but not required.

  • Candidates should be comfortable working for extended periods of time using computers and in an office environment.

  • Up to ~10 Domestic and very limited possible international travel, subject to additional based on customer / project requirements
