Essential Functions

50 Provide direct support to programs deploying Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) expertise and knowledge to effectively deploy capabilities and knowledge in the development of Defense and Space products. Support critical design reviews and anomaly resolution and failure investigation efforts. Provide expertise and innovation in meeting product affordability goals.

20 Develop MBSE business strategic vision to support industry customers and facilitate adoption across product lines and business units.Drive the incorporation of MBSE into the AR culture by assisting programs in MBSE technical planning, peer reviews, ERBs, and IRTs. Maintain relationships with customers and industry technical leadership in the area of MBSE. Mentor engineers in your field of expertise as part of their on-the-job training.

20 Provide technical leadership for MBSE standard work, tools, models, training, KM & discipline health including tools

10 - Support of Fellowship related activities including: (focus on the non-program overhead activities)

  • Provide a strategic technical plan at the critical intersection of business and technology for their position
  • Assess AR technical capabilities (tools) and requirements to be world-class, AR strengths, opportunities and weaknesses, and future technology requirements
  • Identify AR organizational (personnel) technical capabilities, strengths and gaps, and plan future capability improvements within discipline with senior leadership
  • Demonstrate technical leadership
  • Drive direction of standards that align with AR business demands
  • Serve as a role model and mentor for the next generation of technical leaders
  • Provide initial consulting information in key technical areas
  • Proactively lead improvement initiatives, participate in the Technical Excellence Seminar Series aligned with Engineering Week, and support Lunch and Learn activities
  • Demonstrate leadership on industry boards, university affiliations, and technical societies
Requirements

Requires a Bachelors degree in Systems Engineering or appropriate discipline/science (Mechanical/Aerospace) and at least Twenty (20) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is a critical component of AR’s developing Digital Engineering capability and increasingly a requirement of our government contracts in both the Defense and Space Business Units. ARs customers are beginning to recognize the leadership role that AR is establishing in this evolving technology. Continued success in this area requires interfacing with system primes and end customers to understand mission requirements, and drive development of AR products along customer preferred model based architectures. This requires the creation of a Fellow position to provide in-depth technical MBSE expertise for all phases of the design and development life cycle, guide AR investments in concert with current and future customer needs, provide support to proposal efforts, lead definition of technology development opportunities, and drive model based test and certification standards to support AR product development.

This position requires broad understanding of the application of Model Based Systems Engineering to all phases of the design and development life cycle from concept to design, testing and certification, production, deployment, and mission support. In-depth understanding of key engineering disciplines, hardware production, integration and deployment, reliability and system safety are required. Since this is a customer-facing position, the successful candidate is expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills, be able to interface effectively with senior technical staff and all levels of management, and play a leadership role within the industry technical community to ensure that AR’s interests are represented. The successful candidate is also expected to capture and transfer knowledge in this critical field to the next generation of Model Based System Engineers to establish and maintain ARs leadership in this area.

Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active in-scope DoD Secret Security Clearance, Top Secret preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in Systems Engineering to include: requirements and functional analysis, risk management, and product development for rocket propulsion systems.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large cross functional teams to implement and develop MBSE architectures and artifacts.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, coordinating, implementing, and communicating MBSE objectives and goals to all levels of leadership ensuring successful design, development and integration of Rocket propulsion systems.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing, developing and integrating digital tools to include: IBM DOORs and Jazz Team Server, Cameo, Teamwork Cloud, and Rhapsody required.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of contract proposals, basis of estimates, and other MBSE artifacts to support the capture of new business.

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
