Working with Optical Technologies team, the role includes project execution, industrial activities and R&D studies. Hence, in perspective, continuous improvement and self-discipline are requested

Reports to HO Engineering

Main activities

As part of a team working on lasers and optical communications for space applications, the target primary tasks and activities will include:

  • Supporting system test validation and requirement verification of optical communications system and subsystems;
  • Supporting the definition of critical technologies development for optical communication systems
  • Optical test campaign organization and conduction
  • Optical AIT: execution, documentation preparation (AIT Plan / procedures, test flow , test procedures);
  • Definition of specifications and ground tests;
  • Analysis of optical / laser instrument data products, detection of events and anomalies;
  • Definition of optical instrument in-orbit operations, preparation of command sequences;
  • Evaluation of optical alignment from optical / laser-beam shape images, performance recovery procedures;
  • Test data processing and optical performance assessment
  • Definition and implementation of development plan, including monitoring of workshops, suppliers, preparation of purchase orders;
  • Contribution to the preparation of proposals for industrial and R&D activities;
  • Preparation of technical reports, program reviews documentation and execution of oral presentations towards national and international customers;
  • Interface and management of subcontractors or suppliers;
  • Interface with customers (meetings, RIDs, etc);
  • Technical management of projects and studies

Education/Training:

  • Master’s Degree in Electronic or Telecommunication Engineering with focus in optoelectronics and lasers;

Experience:

  • Required: Experience (> 5 years) in laser systems, preferably for space
  • Extensive competence in optical systems (preferably optical telecommunication systems)
  • Background in free space optical design
  • Competence in optical simulation (e.g. Matlab, optical modeling tool, optical communication tools)
  • Competence in lasers (preferably for space)
  • Knowledge of Integrated Optical

Tool or product requirements:

  • Ability to generate innovative solutions and propose them;
  • Pragmatic and product/results oriented approach;
  • Familiarity with design and technological aspects specific to the development of optical components for space applications;
  • Familiarity with ESA procedures and space products development standards;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Basic knowledge of standard Project Management techniques and tools is considered a strong asset.

Languages:

  • English (fluent in technical and non-technical, written and spoken);
  • Italian (intermediate in technical and non-technical, written and spoken).
