Satellite Network Engineering Manager will lead and provide valuable RF, IP and software, engineering, and operations team. The engineering manager will work in conjunction with Panasonic Avionics Corporation Satellite Capacity, Product Line Management, and lead team of network Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). This includes leading staff towards continuous improvement in relation to satellite network updates, diagnosing/fixing system performance, mitigating operational issues network problems and testing new hardware/software deployments.      
 
What you will be doing:       
  • Contribute, adapt, and learn whatever is technical necessary for successful multi-orbit deployment and engineering sustaining, which includes GEO and newly added LEO.
  • Works on systemic complex issues with minimal supervision and lead SMEs who should require minimal supervision.
  • Participate with members of management in the design and development of complex products and analysis of customer (Panasonic Avionics Corporation) requirements.
  • Primary lead for systemic and high profile escalated RF satellite & network issues requiring Tier4 level of deep-dive analysis or collaboration with software/hardware aircraft antenna subject matter experts.
  • Sustaining RF Design, analysis, build and test/trial activities. Perform RF product engineering sustaining, analysis, evaluation, prototype build, and testing of systems.
  • IP Network design, build and test/trail activities.
  • Help generate and update Design, Development, and release schedules internally and externally in conjunction with Newtec / ST Engineering, SBS, Eutelsat/OneWeb and other system vendors providing major component to PAC’s aero mobile system.
  • Provide technical guidance for operations Tiers 1 thru 3, while collaborating with adjacent Engineering, Product, Satellite Capacity and Business Unit teams.
  • Thorough understanding of usage and impact of technical RF components, parameters and translations like RF antenna gains/amplification, Tx/Rx line losses, modcods, PSD compliance limitations, EIRP, bandwidth, symbols & chip rates.
  • Work on ground network issues and provide timely response to customer escalations.
  • Assist with monitoring of ground & satellite network upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches in conjunction with ground & satellite engineering group.
  • Monitor ground & satellite network utilizing supplied tools and systems; provide reactive and proactive support based on interpretation of the tools.
  • Assist with all ground network, satellite, applications & engineering operations.
  • Manages and directs department activities. Assigns, coordinates, and reviews work of software engineering subordinates, to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
  • Analyzes technology trends to identify new product enhancements.
  • Manage the development of test methodologies, plans, and procedures.
  • Manage technical development to ensure compliance with product definitions including environmental requirements.
  • Makes or reviews decisions regarding technical approaches or product designs with staff input considering resource allocation and ensures alignment with project plan.
  • Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine feasibility, cost effectiveness and customer demand for new and existing products.
 The salary range of $126,000 - $211,000 is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives.    Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location.    
 
What we are looking for:  Required: 
  • BS EE or 4-year technical degree is required (i.e. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, Physics, Mathematics). MSEE preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience with satellite systems and/or RF engineering or software engineering.
  • 2+ years supervisory, team lead, or project leader experience.
  • Cabin avionics and In-flight entertainment experience highly preferred.
  • Proven experience w/ satellite system design and end-to-end SATCOM operations. 
  • Proven experience with IP network design and operations. 
  • Satellite Link budget familiarity, RF analysis, and G/T footprint coverage areas. 
  • Knowledge and familiarity with: 
    • DVB-S2, SCPC, TDMA and iDirect/Newtec MxDMA (HRC & MRC)
     
      • Newtec modems including both system operations and air interface.
     
    • Wireless technologies (GSM, 3G, 802.11, …).
    • Antenna theory and design.
     
  
  • Understanding or APIs and Scripting for guiding software system engineers in writing basic to advance scalable APIs or script code (PHP, Python, etc.) to abstract specific source data for analysis or business needs.
  • Working knowledge of designing, development, coding, testing, debugging and implementing technical projects for the fabrication, modification and evaluation of new or existing software solutions or products.
  • Proficient with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Software Engineering field.
  • Agile software development and DevOps skills preferred.
  • Ability to facilitate organizational transformation to support business strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive ownership and accountability in delivering quality products on time to customers.
  • Ability to develop and implement test methods and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a diverse, fast paced, ever changing environment.
